Sooners commit Xavier Robinson Runs Wild

Oklahoma’s summer run of commitments seems to be picking up steam and one player gaining a lot of notoriety – running back Xavier Robinson. The 6-foot-1, 237-pound Midwest City (Okla.) Carl Albert star chose the Sooners over Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, and Iowa State.
As a sophomore Robinson was seen as a future linebacker but his junior season saw him lead the Titans to 10 straight wins to end the year. In his 2022 season, that saw him become the state’s player of the year, he amassed 2,594 yards and 39 touchdowns. For the year he averaged nearly a first down on every carry for the 12-2 5A state champions.
What’s on Tape for Sooners Commit Xavier Robinson
It doesn’t take a lot of watching the new Sooners commitment to understand how physical he is as a running back. Whether it’s simply running through a tackle or his ability to use a stiff arm to keep a defender away from his body, he’s a load to bring down.
But the reality is he’s got more than just his overwhelming physicality to his game.
The biggest thing that stands out from his skillset is his vision. It’s an easy thing to see fitting the Sooners scheme well where Jeff Lebby and Demarco Murray are looking to create options for their backs. On the first play of the reel Robinson is moving right with the flow of the play but sees his secondary cutback lane and finds it. And of course after he does he outruns the defense before a brutal stiff arm to score from roughly 65-yards out.
Beyond just his vision, he also shows a lot of patience to wait for the play to develop and let an alley develop.
But the thing that allows Robinson, at his considerable size, to make these cuts are his outstanding feet. When he sees a hole he doesn’t have a lot of wasted motion before he’s in the lane he’s looking for.
Robinson may not have home run hitting speed but he’s got enough to trouble the linebackers chasing him while safeties are going to struggle dragging him down in space.
Sooners Commit Comparison
This is one I’ve got back and forth a bit about but with his powerful lower body, shifty feet, and easy lateral movement he reminds me a bit of former USC standout Lendale White.
