Sooners Are ‘Best Visit I’ve Ever Been On’
Under Brent Venables there is no denying that the Sooners have renewed their energy, and presence, in the state of Florida. In Venables’s first full class Oklahoma landed five players from the Sunshine State. It’s early to know if they can replicate that success in 2026 but Oklahoma took a step in doing so with an offer to Miami Northwestern cornerback J’Vari Flowers.
Prior to the trip the nation’s No. 67 prospect, according to On3, hadn’t seen much contact with Oklahoma but was impressed by his first trip.
“I hadn’t really had much of a relationship. They watched my film and they knew who I was though,” Flowers said. “Everything I see, it was great, I loved every bit of it, from the campus, to the coaching staff.
“Everything I saw, that’s the best visit I’ve ever been on. All I could see, it’s the best visit I’ve been on.”
Not surprisingly he spent ample time around Sooners cornerbacks coach Jay Valai.
“We were talking about me coming up there and we were talking about how he runs his defense and what he sees in his players and his expertise,” he said. “He was saying to always be working when no one is watching and get that work in to get where you want to be. He was giving me a lot of tips.
“We made a great connection.”
Emerging Sooners Standout Knows Flowers
The considerable differences between the city of Miami and Oklahoma are not lost on Flowers. But though the talented corner is headed to Baylor and SMU this weekend, he plans to be back in Norman quickly.
“Yeah, I plan to come up there as soon as possible,” he said of seeing the Sooners again.
Flowers came in with a relationship with Sooners freshman safety Jaydan Hardy, who is having a big spring for Oklahoma. And Hardy, along with some other players he saw and spoke with left a lasting mark on Flowers.
“It would be the energy that the players had,” he said of what stood out to him most about his Sooners visit. “From the start of things breaking down to the end of practice, their energy never stopped.
“I spoke to the players a bit, I know Jaydan. He told me he likes it quite a bit. He’s doing well.”
