Florida State had work to do if it wanted to make a real push for five-star Alabama wide receiver Cam Coleman, who finally this weekend, and it sounds as if the Seminoles did just that.
After working out in FSU’s Elite Camp on Saturday and checking out more of the campus and Seminoles program, the talented wideout gave the visit high marks. He seemed to especially enjoy his time with head coach Mike Norvell and receivers coach Ron Dugans.
“It was a great opportunity from Coach Norvell to Coach Dugans — they taught me some stuff I can apply as a player in this little amount of time,” Coleman said. “It was a lot of coaching. They helped me with my stance and getting on the top of my routes. And breaks to change the tempos in my route.”
Coleman added that Dugans is very intense when it comes to coaching his players. And the five-star seemed to like the way the entire FSU staff interacts with players.
“The way they really invest time into their players,” he said. “In the meeting room, helping them with small details.”
Before sitting in on the meetings and taking part in the Elite Camp workout, many of the recruits got to take part in a photo shoot wearing FSU uniforms. Coleman said his favorite was the all-black gear.
He also loves watching how the Seminoles’ coaches teach in their meetings.
So the big question now is obvious: How is the five-star receiver feeling about the Seminoles?
“Really, I could be anywhere right now — another visit or an official visit, and I chose here because of where they stand on my list,” Coleman said. “I feel it’s a great program and an upcoming program. Coach Norvell has something special here, and I want to experience it.”
Coleman is listed at just over 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, and he showed impressive speed and route-running during Saturday’s Elite Camp. On3 rates him as the No. 2 receiver in the country, the No. 1 player in Alabama and the No. 6 overall prospect nationally.
The Alabama product, who was making his third unofficial visit to FSU, said he loves the Seminoles’ game-day traditions.
“My favorite part is on game day and they run out the horse and the spear,” Coleman said. “It’s a great atmosphere with the fireworks, everything. Amazing atmosphere and great culture they have here at Florida State.”

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine has Auburn as the perceived leader for Coleman, but the receiver seems to be open in his recruitment and said he likes the Seminoles more each time he visits.
“When I came here in the past for the Georgia Tech game, I wanted to come back,” he said. “Then we had a quick in-and-out thing with my 7-on-7 team. This visit, I got to see the behind the scenes, the playbook a little bit. It was a great experience about the program and culture itself.”
