Solomon Williams talks Texas Longhorns ahead of visit

Tampa, Fla. – The Texas Longhorns continue the pursuit of Sunshine State four-star EDGE prospect Solomon Williams.
The 6-foot-2, 250-pound outside linebacker with natural pass rushing feel was forced to cancel an official visit last weekend to Texas due to a health issue in the family. But make no mistake, the No. 181 ranked prospect on the On300 plans to be back in Austin soon so his mom can see what he liked on a visit in late July.
“Everything is still the same with my top five,” Williams said Wednesday. “Oregon, Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M and Clemson. I had a family issue with my grandmother being in the hospital. I’m trying to get to the schools (I can get to), so I can make my final decision,”
The Texas staff remains in contact with the No. 23 ranked EDGE prospect in the country on a daily basis. That includes Steve Sarkisian, Pete Kwiatkowski and Jeff Choate.
“PK, Sark and the outside linebackers assistant coach. We actually talked today. They were talking about how they wished they could have gotten me up last weekend with the atmosphere against Wyoming. Especially with them beating Bama, they wished they had been able to get me there. They are talking to me about coming next weekend (September 30), or later this season.”
Williams told Inside Texas Wednesday that he had actually spoke with Sarkisian earlier in the day.
“He’s just wishing me well. Checking on my grandmother, and my family. He can’t wait for me to get back on campus with my mother.”
When asked about what stands out about Texas right now, the list continues to grow.
“Thoughts on Texas are an up and coming team with a great fan base. They need my position in pass rushing. They have great development. Coach Jacquies Smith coming from the NFL being able to teach me things that many others can’t teach me. Those are things that are very interesting to me.”
A key factor that is a plus for Texas is the planned major for Williams. He plans to be a pharmacy major, and the University of Texas College of Pharmacy is the No. 11 pharmacy school in the country.
“(Texas) having my major, I want to become a pharmacist. Being a top pharmaceutical school is very intriguing to me.”
Williams talks keys in making a decision
The Sunshine State pass rusher has a couple of keys that will be impactful when making a decision.
“A place I feel like that is going to be a family atmosphere. A place where I feel like I’m getting the best out of a program, and the program is trying to get the best out of me. And a place where I feel I can go against the best of the best, but also feel like I can be developed well. Not just being a plug in player, but being developed well. Having a great staff around me.”
Williams said that one Texas commitment that is reaching out is IMG Academy four-star safety Jordon Johnson-Rubell. He has also stayed in contact with Texas edge standout Barryn Sorrell since the late July unofficial visit.
