Softball America Stars of the Week: Geurin, Kavan, Kuszak, Stoddard

The Softball America staff will pick four student-athletes as our Stars of the Week following the latest slate of games. Our award system isn’t necessarily stat-based but rather players who left a lasting impact as we watched games from the previous week. Who changed the tune of their teams? Who made the headlines? Who might be the breakout star during the season?

SJ Geurin, LHP, Auburn

Geurin was a big reason for the Tigers’ big weekend in Clearwater. The lefty came away with four wins and a pair of saves during Auburn’s 6-0 tournament run. She allowed two earned runs in 22.2 innings pitched.

Teagan Kavan, RHP, Texas

Kavan earned a pair of wins after Texas Tech, allowing one earned run over 13 innings this past weekend. She outdueled NiJaree Canady in a nine-inning affair on Friday. She was the first Longhorn pitcher to have 18 strikeouts in a game since Cat Osterman against Arizona State on June 1, 2006.

Ava Kuszak, INF, Nebraska

The Wisconsin transfer was brought in to assume Billie Andrews’ role at shortstop and hit for power. She showed plenty of it in New Mexico. She hit six home runs including a hat trick against Montana in the road trip finale.

Miranda Stoddard, UTL, Arizona

Kuszak wasn’t the only one blasting off. Stoddard reminded us she can do damage at the plate too. The two-way Wildcat hit six home runs, hitting multiple home runs against South Alabama twice. She had a hit in every game this past weekend and had 12 RBIs. She currently has a 2.374 OPS along with her 1.75 ERA.
