Snoop Dogg takes shot at Steelers QB amid Aaron Rodgers, Shedeur Sanders interest: ‘We’ve got Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer at QB’

World-famous rapper Snoop Dogg isn’t usually one to mince words, especially when discussing his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. And, suffice it to say, The Chronic superstar wasn’t just blowing smoke during a Wednesday morning in-studio appearance on ESPN’s First Take.
On the even of the 2025 NFL Draft (8 pm ET, Thursday), Snoop Dogg unleashed on the Steelers’ dubious quarterback situation that currently includes only veteran backup Mason Rudolph and Skylar Thompson currently listed on the roster.
First Take host Molly Qerim opened up the discussion by asking about the potential for Pittsburgh to select polarizing Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders with the 21st overall pick, a scenario Snoop Dogg doesn’t expect to happen Thursday night.
“If he’s around. I mean, I don’t think he’s going to be around for the 21st pick. He’s doing a lot of talking, but I don’t think (teams) are going to let him stay around that long. But if he is available, I’d take him,” Dogg said. “We’ve got to get something back there to get the ball to these pieces we put to the puzzle. Right now I don’t like the way we look at quarterback, that’s no disrespect, I just don’t like the way we look. … We’ve got Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer at quarterback … come on, man.”
Jokes aside, it’s clear quarterback remains a significant need Pittsburgh must address during this weekend’s NFL Draft, be it in the first round or by securing the services of 41-year-old Aaron Rodgers, who is currently weighing his options between retirement or playing the 2025 season.
“Is he going to show up to mini-camp and all the other stuff? Because that’s what’s important. Like if you don’t get the rhythm of the team, then we don’t need you, homie,” Dogg said of the four-time league MVP. “You’ve got to come in here and do what we need to be done to get the rhythm and the chemistry. That’s what’s missing. Like, whoever we going to get got to come in and get down with us. We don’t need no divas so to speak. So, if he’s going to sign, sign. If not, kick rocks.”
Snoop Dogg’s ultimatium aside, the Steelers front office has made it clear they’re willing to wait out Rodgers’ decision — though “not forever,” according to team owner Art Rooney II.
Whether or not Rodgers ultimately signs with Pittsburgh as a free agent, quarterback will be of the utmost concern for most Steelers fans — including Snoop Dogg — throughout the three-day draft extravaganza this weekend. And if he had his way, Thursday could be a very special day.
“If (Rodgers) calls tomorrow, hell yeah, we’ll sign him,” Dogg concluded. “I’m going to take both of them (Sanders and Rodgers).”
Aaron Rodgers reveals where things stand with Pittsburgh Steelers, Mike Tomlin
Aaron Rodgers revealed where things stand with him and the Pittsburgh Steelers. On The Pat McAfee Show, the Super Bowl champion quarterback said he has spoken to Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin multiple times.
“Listen, this entire time I haven’t felt like I owed somebody any decision at some point,” Rodgers said. “… I’ve been upfront with them about that. If you need to move on, call me, by all means. … There’s been no deadline. And yeah, I’ve talked to Mike (Tomlin) many times.”
Rodgers was then asked if he will play for the Steelers if he decided to return to the NFL.
“I am trying to be open to everything and not specifically attached to anything when it comes to this decision,” he explained. “I’m not holding anybody hostage – I really want to emphasize that. … I’m just going through a lot in my personal life that has to take precedence at this point. … At the same time, I want to keep the lines of communication open.”
