SMU transfer buzz entering final day of portal window

SMU Football is ready for the stretch run of assembling its transfer portal class while keeping the Mustangs on campus intact. Tuesday is the final day to enter the portal for players and we’ve got the latest buzz around the Mustangs.

*** SMU picked up a massive addition in Miami defensive line transfer Jared Harrison-Hunte on Sunday and on Tuesday, defensive back Teddy Knox entered the transfer portal. That leaves SMU with five open scholarships, as of now. The final push is on to address the roster with cornerback, offensive line and defensive end among the positions we’re fully expecting to get addressed. Don’t be shocked if there’s a best available type of take as well, as the staff always kicks the tires on that option.

*** SMU is continuing to recruit Arkansas offensive linemen Paris Patterson and Andrew Chamblee, both of which who are going through the recruiting process still. Patterson spent just one season in Fayetteville, but redshirted and will have four years of eligibility remaining. In 2023, Chamblee appeared in every game for the ‘Hogs, including eight starts. For his efforts, he earned a spot on the All-SEC Freshman Team. Both are big linemen who can address SMU’s depth and talent needs at the position.

*** SMU remains in a good position for Colorado defensive back transfer Jaden Milliner-Jones and is beginning to make a push for Texas defensive back transfer Terrance Brooks. Milliner-Jones would fit into the safety room while Brooks would be an instant impact cornerback for the 2024 season. SMU’s need is certainly there with Brooks, who is from the Dallas area, but he’s a player that many teams are after as well.

*** Texas defensive end Billy Walton is also a name we’re continuing to watch for as well. He is now in the transfer portal and the Mustangs are among the teams recruiting him. The former Dallas (Tex.) South Oak Cliff standout is an option, if SMU wants to address the EDGE position.
