SMU standing out to Houston area LB Kaleb Burns
2025 Houston (Tex.) Cy Falls linebacker Kaleb Burns wrapped up his SMU official visit on Sunday with the Mustangs setting the bar high in his recruitment.
“It’s big, it’s been probably one of the best visits that I’ve been on,” Burns told On3. “Great weekend having me and my family up here.”
With the large group of prospects on campus along with all the folks in Dallas Burns met, it really added to the atmosphere.
“It was definitely way more fun, got us (the recruits) a lot closer,” Burns said. “Getting to know all the coaches, even some of the players. It’s been all good. I train with some of the players (Alex Kilgore) as well.”
SMU co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Maurice Crum is pushing for a commitment. Burns told On3’s Steve Wiltfong on Sunday that the Mustangs are leading the way.
“Definitely wants me to commit, but having that connection and relationship, feel like I can do great things, feel like we can do great things together,” he said. “They want me to sign that rock.”
He’s taken a TCU official visit already while programs like Baylor and Houston are set to get official visits this summer. Then, it’ll be time to make a decision for the 6-1, 210-pound linebacker.
“I have a couple more OVs, I’m ready to make my decision after my official visits probably that first weekend after my visits.”
On3 ranks him as the No. 34 linebacker in the country and No. 72 prospect in the state of Texas. The Mustangs lead the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine for Burns.
Burns had 73 tackles as a junior with 18.5 stops for loss, six sacks, two forced fumbles and two interceptions.
