SMU recruiting notes as official visits get locked in
SMU has numerous prospects set to hit campus this summer for an official visit. Here’s the rundown on some of the names expected in and where they’re set to take official visits.
Red Oak (Tex.) LB Zach Smith: Smith locked in his SMU official visit first, set for June 15. Now, he has Washington State set for June 9 and Baylor on June 22. He’s also working to set up a Houston official visit. Smith’s stock continues to rise and while SMU’s hosted him more than any school, the Mustangs will have to weather the official visit storm next month for him.
Daphne (Ala.) Bayside Academy OL Graham Uter: Since SMU was first to offer the 6-5, 280-pounder, UAB, Troy, Jacksonville State and others have offered him. The two-way lineman that SMU’s recruiting to play offensive line will come back to Dallas on June 15 for his official visit. Other programs are vying for official visits and he plans on hitting some camps this summer as well. He plans a decision before his senior season.
Cedar Hill (Tex.) EDGE Zhaiylen Scott: SMU hosted Scott multiple times during the spring for unofficial visits for practice and now has his official visit locked in for June 15. He’ll head to Bowling Green on June 22 for an official visit while programs like Texas State and Colorado also have offered. On3 ranks him as the No. 95 EDGE in the country.
Kelso (Wash.) OT Payton Stewart: Stewart has a busy run of official visits and SMU will host him with a chance to pull an offensive tackle from the West Coast for the second straight cycle. SMU will host him June 15 while Northwestern will host him this weekend before Oregon State, Washington State and Duke also host the 6-7, 240-pounder in June. The Beavers lead the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine narrowly over Washington State. On3 ranks him as the No. 61 overall offensive tackle in the nation.
Shreveport (La.) Evangel Christian DL Gabriel Reliford: SMU (June 16) and Vanderbilt (June 2) are the two programs with official visits locked in for the summer. Ole Miss and Baylor just offered, which continues the trend of programs jumping into the mix for the 6-3, 255-pounder. SMU leads the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
Dallas (Tex.) Christian DB William Nettles: One of SMU’s top overall priorities, Nettles is set to visit the last weekend for visits of June after seeing Purdue on June 16. The Mustangs and Boilermakers appear locked in a battle to land the DFW area standout. SMU hosted him again for a visit, this time the Spring Game in April. SMU’s put a ton of energy into landing Nettles and need to reel him in.
