SMU making push for Louisiana DL Melvin Hills
SMU offered 2024 Lafayette Christian Academy (La.) defensive lineman Melvin Hills this week and now the three-star prospect is planning to visit the Hilltop. The 6-4, 270-pound prospect likes what he sees early on from the Mustangs.
“It feels great. I feel they see some greatness in me and it’s a really a good opportunity to work with an up-and-coming team,” Hills told On3. “I found out it’s a private college. I really found out about them like two to three years ago and seen their football team really started getting better.”
SMU defensive line coach Calvin Thibodeaux impressed him when the two spoke about the offer. Hills is planning to take a visit this summer and camp.
“Great dude,” Hills said. “He’s really about God and brought up the the education, wasn’t just sports.”
Ole Miss will host him June 9 and Texas will host him June 16 for official visits. The Longhorns lead the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine. He’s also got more visits on the way from his long list of offers.
Hills plans to make a decision before the beginning of his senior season. He’s planning a top schools list soon, which SMU now hopes to make.
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Hills is the No. 54 overall defensive lineman in the nation and No. 15 prospect in Louisiana.
