SMU hosts Top 100 prospects, dishes out new 4-star offer

SMU Basketball hosted more Top 100 prospects for visits on Monday. Here’s the latest on who was on campus as a new offer was dished out from Andy Enfield.

*** SMU hosted Jermaine O’Neal, Jr. of Dynamic Prep in Dallas. The son of former NBA star Jermaine O’Neal was re-offered by the program on his visit and is one of the top 2025 prospects in the country. The four-star point guard ranks as the No. 91 overall prospect and No. 16 point guard nationally, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He holds offers from the likes of Arkansas, Tennessee, Missouri, Vanderbilt, SMU, and others. O’Neal plans to make a decision in the fall after taking visits. His father is now the head coach at Dynamic Prep. It wouldn’t be surprising to see O’Neal, Jr. stay close to home.

*** 2025 Denton, Texas native Jeremiah Green is a Top 100 prospect and one of the best point guards in the country, playing for Sunrise Christian. He’s the highest-ranked prospect to visit on Monday on the On3 Industry Ranking and holds Auburn, Houston, Oklahoma State and other offers. The Mustangs offered him on the visit and are now thrust into the mix of his recruitment. Green opened up his recruitment this month to more programs and that’s noteworthy as the Mustangs got him on campus quickly.

*** Big man Jaden Toombs, another Dynamic Prep prospect, was on campus as well. Playing for Drive Nation at the Nike EYBL stop in Indianapolis, he was a top performer from the weekend. SMU’s now in the mix while LSU, Texas Tech and others are also involved early on this summer. He’s the No. 63 overall prospect and No. 7 center in the nation.

“I don’t really have any time frames,” Toombs told On3 in December. “I’m just going to get on some visits and see how it goes. I’m looking for a place I can go and be me. A program where I can be versatile offensively and defensively, and really just be able to go out and play hard. I’m willing to do anything to win, so if they want to play dribble handoff or posted up, I can do any of that, I just want to win.”

“4-star PF Jaden Toombs (Drive Nation) is a steady performer who brings a ferocity around the rim,” On3’s Jamie Shaw wrote. “The 6-foot-9 post player rebounds his area well, tracking the ball and using his soft hands to corral the ball in traffic. He finished well around the basket and even stepped out knock down threes this weekend. Toombs hovered between six and nine rebounds each game this weekend and finished with 20-plus points twice.”
