SMU hosts local 4-star prospect, another top target

SMU hosted a pair of top targets for unofficial visits on Thursday. 2024 Red Oak (Tex.) linebacker Zach Smith and 2025 four-star Red Oak (Tex.) defensive lineman Kamauryn Morgan were both on campus to check out the Hilltop.
Smith’s long been considered an SMU lean and is headed toward an announcement near the start of his senior season. He has a Top 5 of SMU, Houston, Arizona State, Tulsa and Washington State.
The Mustangs lead the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine and SMU hosted Smith for his official visit earlier this month.
As a junior, Smith notched 91 total tackles, nine tackles for loss, five sacks, five pass breakups and a forced fumble.
Morgan, a junior On3 four-star, holds 17 offers including SMU, Texas, Georgia, Oregon, Texas A&M, Miami, Florida, Washington, and Auburn.
“The process has been really good and I’m just enjoying it,” said Morgan in the spring. “It’s been fun, with a lot of perks coming with it.”
Morgan has athletic genes in his family. His father Ronnie Morgan was a former Louisiana Tech basketball player. It certainly translates for Kamauryn on the gridiron after he notched 24 tackles, eight tackles for loss, five sacks, and two pass breakups during his breakout sophomore campaign.
Morgan is the No. 175 overall prospect and No. 20 defensive lineman in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 30 player in Texas.
SMU trails Texas on the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine for Morgan.
