SMU hosting Big 12 transfer for official visit

SMU hosting Big 12 transfer for official visit

Former Dallas (Tex.) South Oak Cliff standout Kyron Chambers left TCU after one season with the Horned Frogs, entering the transfer portal. Now, the 6-0, 195-pound defender is taking an official visit to SMU this weekend.

Defensive back is a position SMU wanted to address and is aiming to do that with Chambers.

In 2022, Chambers played in five games as a true freshman, but did not record a tackle. Chambers was squarely in the two-deep this spring with TCU, earning some reps with the first team.

SMU has a revamped secondary with numerous transfers added to the fold, and Chambers would bring another jolt of talent and even versatility in the secondary.

Coming out of high school, Chambers helped SOC advance to and win the 2021 State Championship game. He was a Texas District 6-5A Division II first-team selection at cornerback as a junior. He owns a personal best 11.03 100-meter time as a senior.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Chambers was a three-star prospect, ranking as the No. 441 overall prospect and No. 45 cornerback nationally.

On3 was extremely high on Chambers, ranking him as the No. 275 overall prospect in the nation, No. 30 cornerback in the country and No. 50 prospect in Texas. He held offers from Arizona, Indiana, Oklahoma State, South Carolina and others.
