Simmons Scoop: Who’s in line to add big commitments this week?
Some top prospects started their senior seasons this past weekend, many more will kick things off this week. Much of their focus will go toward their seasons moving forward this fall, but there are some big decisions still taking place. Numerous top recruits are set to announce commitments this week and On3’s Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons gives the latest on their recruitment.
4-star EDGE Jordan Ross
Commitment date: Aug. 21
The buzz: Alabama, Florida, Tennessee and Texas are the finalists for Jordan Ross. He has been linked to Florida in the past, but there has not been buzz around the four-star EDGE out of Birmingham (Ala.) Vestavia Hills and the Gators over the last month and a half. Tennessee has long been considered a top three school for Ross and the Vols have been trending since the official visit in June. Ross has always been open to leaving his home state and the Vols hope to capitalize on that Monday night.
2025 4-star EDGE Jakaleb Faulk
Commitment date: Aug. 21
The buzz: Keldric Faulk signed with Auburn in 2023 and his younger brother, Jakaleb Faulk is likely to commit to the Tigers on Monday evening. The four-star EDGE out of Highland Home (Ala.) is in the 2025 class, but he has a strong connection to the Tigers, Auburn has made him feel wanted and the two Faulks are expected to play together on the Plains.
5-star DL Eddrick Houston
Commitment date: Aug. 22
The buzz: Eddrick Houston never looked like a prospect that was going to stay home. The five-star defensive lineman out of Buford (Ga.) had Georgia on his list, but the Bulldogs have always been on the outside looking in. Alabama has been in the same position. Clemson at one time had a spot in his top two based on intel, but this race is coming down to Ohio State and USC. The Trojans impressed in May when Houston took his official visit, but the Buckeyes have been trending since an early spring unofficial visit to Columbus. Ryan Day and Larry Johnson have the Buckeyes in a strong position.
4-star RB Daniel Hill
Commitment date: Aug. 23
The buzz: The Mississippi State legacy has the Bulldogs on his list, but Daniel Hill is expected to commit to Alabama or South Carolina on Wednesday. The four-star running back out of Meridian (Miss.) visited Tuscaloosa in July, but I still like the Gamecocks. Since early in the spring, Shane Beamer‘s program has been the one I have heard the most about with Hill. There was some confidence in Tuscaloosa, but South Carolina has been the team to beat for some time on my end.
4-star WR Noreel White
Commitment date: Aug. 25
The buzz: Noreel White took a visit to Ole Miss while he was still committed to Arkansas, then reopened his recruitment shortly thereafter. The Rebels stayed consistent with White and although the four-star wide receiver out of Ocean Springs (Miss.) St. Martin has Arkansas, LSU and Mississippi State on his list, Ole Miss looks to be a heavy favorite. And Lane Kiffin‘s program may not be done this week. There is another Ole Miss target who could soon set his commitment date that the Rebels are trending for.
4-star S Zaquan Patterson
Commitment date: Aug. 26
The buzz: Zaquan Patterson has yet to take an official visit, but the four-star safety at Hollywood (Fla.) Chaminade-Madonna visited all five finalists unofficially over the summer. It looks like Ohio State is on the outside looking in. Miami is the local program, and Patterson has strong relationships there. Florida State is the other in-state school on his list, and the Seminoles have grabbed the momentum late. He likes what Mike Norvell is building in Tallahassee. Auburn and Michigan are two more schools in this race that he remains in heavy contact with.
5-star DL David Stone
Commitment date: Aug. 26
The buzz: The buzz remains around Oklahoma, but David Stone is still in communication with Miami and Michigan State as well. There is still some confidence at Miami that they have a shot to pull Stone out of Oklahoma. His relationships are strong in Norman, though. He is from 30 minutes from the Oklahoma campus, he is arguably the biggest piece of the puzzle for this Sooners this cycle and Brent Venables program is still considered the one to beat.
