Shedeur Sanders on Colorado doubters after Nebraska win: ‘They’re gonna hate regardless’

The Colorado Buffaloes picked up their second win of the season in their home opener against the Nebraska Cornhuskers — a former in-conference rival. Colorado now advances to 2-0 on the season and finds themselves ranked No. 18 in the AP Top 25.

Despite all the early season success, some are just as skeptical of the program as they were before they took the field in 2023. But that doubt does not bother Colorado star quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Following their 36-14 victory over Nebraska, Sanders was asked if he had a statement for the doubters. The Colorado signal caller brushed off the notion, saying, ‘They’re going to hate regardless.’

“Well, the critics, they are going to hate regardless. They found a way to hate on us last week, and we was doing it last week. So this week, of course, they’re going to hate,” said Sanders.

“But we’re not really too concerned about that. We understand where we gotta grow and get better at. So I’m excited that we went through this and we were able to just stick together and find a way to put up points on the board. But it is unacceptable; we can’t do that again, put that much pressure on the defense.”

In their week two showdown with Nebraska, Colorado’s offense got off to a slow start. The Buffaloes did not put their first points on the board until the 4:20 mark in the second quarter, courtesy of a 31-yard field goal by kicker Jace Feely. Before heading into halftime, Sanders was able to lead Colorado on two more scoring drives to take a 13-0 lead into the. In the second half, the Buffaloes would outscore the Cornhuskers 26-14 to pick up the 22-point victory.

While Colorado’s offense was slow to action in Week 2, their defense was on and raring to go from the opening kickoff. The Buffaloes’ defense limited the Cornhuskers’ offense, allowing them to convert 4-13 of their third down conversions and denying them a single fourth down conversion as they finished the game 0-2.

But the most significant stat the Colorado defense was able to put up against Nebraska was in the turnover department. The Buffaloes caused the Cornhuskers to commit four turnovers on the day, three lost fumbles, and an interception.

Colorado won the season opener against TCU thanks to the offensive firepower led by Sanders. In Week 2, it was the defensive turn to step up to the plate, and they did. So, if there are still doubters hating on Colorado, Sanders is more than happy to let them. The Buffaloes’ plan is to continue to smile and pick up victories while the doubters continue to hate.

So far they’re executing to perfection.
