Shedeur Sanders draft slide: Deion Sanders clowns Joe Flacco after Browns pass on son in Round 1

Deion Sanders watched as his son Shedeur Sanders fell out of the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. It was certainly a disappointing development for the family, but the Colorado head coach and his former quarterback kept it light after reality began to set it.
Coach Prime and Shedeur Sanders were discussing the teams that passed on him when the Browns came up. Deion Sanders asked who Cleveland’s quarterback is, and his son responded with Joe Flacco. That took his father for a loop, and he had a hilarious response to the idea of the franchise being content at the position.
“Flacco my age,” Deion Sanders quipped, via Dov Kleiman. Coach Prime has Flacco beat by 17 years, so maybe the quarterback’s salt-and-pepper look is making him look a bit more dated to the Pro Football Hall of Famer. It may not have been an accurate jab, but it’s funny nonetheless.
All told, the moment seemed to be in good fun, as Shedeur Sanders cracked a smile, and Deion Sanders followed the moment up by proclaiming he’s a fan of the quarterback: “I like Flacco,” Coach Prime added. So, there will be no awkward moments if the former Colorado quarterback ends up in Cleveland after all.
It’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility. The Browns passed on Sanders at No. 2, opting to trade back to No. 5 after receiving an awesome offer from the Jacksonville Jaguars. That opened up the possibility for Shedeur Sanders to be picked in that spot, but Cleveland selected former Michigan defensive lineman Mason Graham instead.
So what’s next for Shedeur Sanders? Well, the Browns just so happen to have the first pick of the second round, and Matt Miller of ESPN believes that’s where Coach Prime’s son will land on Friday evening.
“The Browns weren’t comfortable selecting a quarterback in Round 1, but the front office is able to spend Friday coming to a consensus on Sanders — whose value looks much better at No. 33 than it did in the top five,” Miller proclaimed. “The pressure to play him and his pressure to perform are much more manageable in this spot.”
Additionally, the Browns have the No. 36 overall pick, as well. That’s due to the aforementioned trade with Jacksonville. That could be a landing spot with Sanders, along with the Las Vegas Raiders at No. 37, the New Orleans Saints at No. 40 and the New York Jets at No. 42. Don’t rule out the Pittsburgh Steelers trading up from No. 83 as well if Sanders continues to fall, since they don’t have a second round pick at the moment.
All told, eyes will remain on Deion Sanders and Shedeur Sanders on Friday evening, until the draft card with the quarterback’s name is turned in. If it’s the Browns who make the professional football dreams come true for Shedeur Sanders though, Coach Prime might have to have a laugh with Joe Flacco, for sure.
