Shane Beamer admits crowd noise at Clemson will be ‘different’ from anything Gamecocks have experienced
South Carolina has already played four road games this season, and the Gamecocks have performed well in all of them. South Carolina is 3-1 on the road entering Saturday’s game at Clemson, with three 20-plus point wins and a close loss to Alabama.
With that said, Gamecocks head coach Shane Beamer admitted on Tuesday that the crowd his team will face at Clemson will be different from anything South Carolina has faced this year.
“This will be different, and we talked about it,” Shane Beamer said. “I mean crowd noise will be an issue.”
The Gamecocks opened the road portion of their schedule back in September at Kentucky. South Carolina controlled the game throughout and cruised to a 31-6 win.
“We went to Kentucky, that was a 3:30 game. Not that the crowd wasn’t into it, because they were, but we played well and in a lot of ways took the crowd out of it,” Beamer said.
From there, South Carolina played at Alabama on Oct. 12. The Crimson Tide ended up escaping with a 27-25 win in a back-and-forth game. Beamer said Tuesday that Alabama fans weren’t exactly fired up for the matchup.
“We went to Alabama, we were a 23-point underdog,” Beamer said. “I don’t think the Crimson Tide were like ripping and roaring as a fanbase waiting on the Gamecocks to roll in there. And that was an 11 a.m. kick. It was loud, don’t get me wrong. But it wasn’t to the point where, ‘Oh my God, we can’t hear.’”
The third road game of the season for South Carolina was at Oklahoma on Oct. 19. Beamer’s club jumped out to a quick three-touchdown lead and the game was never in doubt. Finally, the Gamecocks played Vanderbilt in Nashville with plenty of South Carolina fans in attendance.
“Then we went to Oklahoma and we were up 21-0 five minutes into the game and we took the crowd out of it. Then we went to Vanderbilt and it was like a home game for us in a lot of ways, and there was no crowd noise,” Beamer said. “So this will be different.”
Clemson fans are fired up for the matchup and will be ready to go as there is a lot on the line. Beamer knows that his team has to prepare for the noise.
“It’s crazy that in Game 12 you’re talking about it, but this will be the loudest crowd we’ve played in, and that’s awesome and exciting,” Beamer said. “It goes back to all of us as an offense, defense, special teams, coaching staff, just executing and playing well where you can not let the crowd become a factor.”
