Seminoles make moves with elite out-of-state prospects Loftin, Wallace

While the state of Florida will always be the primary focus of FSU’s recruiting efforts, highly rated out-of-state prospects continue to flock to Tallahassee this spring to check out the Seminoles in person.

Four-star tight end Chase Loftin of Nebraska was on Florida State’s campus for the first time on Friday as the Seminoles conducted a practice inside Doak Campbell Stadium.

“It was really good. The coaching staff showed me a lot of love, so I had a really good time,” Loftin said.

According to On3, the 6-foot-5, 213-pound prospect is a top 300 recruit in the class, as well as the No. 1 player in Nebraska.

Among the many highlights of the visit for Loftin was getting to meet FSU head coach Mike Norvell.

“It was great, really high-energy guy,” the four-star prospect said. “He showed me a lot of love, and I really think he’s a good coach. So I appreciate it coming from him.”

The biggest news to come out of the visit was that Loftin locked in an official visit with the Seminoles for June 6. He also has officials scheduled for Texas A&M and Nebraska on the weekends following his trip to FSU.

While it might be difficult to pull the top player in his state away from the Nebraska Cornhuskers, Loftin clearly enjoyed what he saw from FSU’s coaches and the entire campus.

“First thing was, as soon as I got in, there was a ton of coaches in there waiting for me,” the tight end said. “They showed me a lot of love that way … and I guess some things that obviously stick out is first of all their campus is like second to none. That’s the nicest campus I’ve ever been on. And the weather is not too bad.”

FSU hosts nation’s No. 2 linebacker

FSU’s coaches also welcomed in four-star linebacker Tavion Wallace from Georgia. According to On3, Wallace is a top-50 recruit in the class, as well as the No. 2 player at his position.

This was not Wallace’s first trip to Florida State, but he said it was the best.

“I’d love to come back to Tallahassee,” Wallace said. “Every time is better and better — every time I come back.”

Wallace said he loved what he saw from the FSU linebackers during practice and in the meeting room. He said he enjoyed “learning ball” from linebackers coach Randy Shannon throughout the day.

As for where FSU stands in his recruitment, the 6-foot-1, 197-pound prospect said the Seminoles are in his top three, along with Georgia and Florida.

“I’d say Florida State is still one of the top schools in my recruitment right now … really because of the consistency and I love coming back to Tallahassee,” the Jesup, Ga., standout said. “I love the atmosphere here, especially when I came to a game. … Just everything has been good.”

Florida State was Wallace’s last unofficial visit before he begins taking officials. The four-star said he will look to make a decision in July after he takes his official visits and before the start of his senior season.
