Scottie Scheffler reveals how Jim Nantz ended up buying his car

Scottie Scheffler opened up about how Jim Nantz bought his 2012 GMC Yukon XL earlier this year. On Wednesday, the No. 1 golfer in the world spoke to ESPN’s Marty Smith at the Masters in Augusta about how he sold the vehicle to Nantz, and it began with his dad.
“We came to the Masters in 2012. …My dad came for most of the week, and he had a car that had 140,000 (miles),” Scottie Scheffler said. “It broke down here in Augusta. He was like, ‘Well, I could get a car and rent it and return it and rent the car in Augusta.’ It turned out to be a mess. He was like, ‘Alright, I’m going to have to get a new car. Might as well get he car here and drive it back.
“He found a dealership here and got the car, and used it the rest of the week, and drove it home. It was with my dad for a few years, and I ended up taking it when I was in college, probably four or five years later. It’s got a lot of miles on it. My dad can put some miles on a truck. We decided to put it up for auction, and Mr. Nantz took it home.”

Scheffler donated the car with 190,000 miles on it to Triumph Over Kid Cancer (TOKC), and it was auctioned by Heritage Auctions, according to Golfweek. TKOC was started by James Ragan, Scheffler’s friend from junior golf, who died from osteosarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer.
Jim Natnz spoke to Ragan when he interviewed Jack Nicklaus during MD Anderson’s “A Conversation with a Legend” in 2010. Nantz’s meeting with Ragan is one reason he purchased the car. “Had he been healthy, he could’ve done anything,” Nantz told Golfweek. “He had this ability to communicate. And he did do great things. He laid the groundwork for this fundraising and awareness. It was his brainchild. He worried about everyone else.”
Scheffler’s father bought the GMC Yukon XL at the Master Buick GMC on Washington Road in August, Georgia. Jim Nantz purchased the vehicle for $50,000, and it’s in his garage in Pebble Beach, California.
