Schools are not giving up on flipping 2026 Houston 4-star athlete commit Keisean Henderson
Houston landed its biggest recruiting win under new head coach Willie Fritz on May 27 when Houston (Texas) Legacy The School of Sport Sciences four-star athlete Keisean Henderson chose the Cougars. The 6-foot-3, 170-pound recruit is feeling great about his pledge to Houston, but is still keeping his options open.
A key reason why Henderson chose the Cougars is because they offered him the opportunity to play quarterback throughout his entire college football career. Two other schools who want him to play under center are Baylor and SMU. Mustangs quarterbacks coach D’Eriq King, who played the position at Houston and Miami, already has a strong relationship with Henderson.
“I used to work out with D’Eriq at Select QB Athletics,” Henderson told On3. “He’s another mentor and a brother-like figure who I can always call about anything. I was already calling him about things outside of football and have continued to do so. That makes it better that he is the quarterbacks coach at SMU and I’m glad that he has the opportunity to be the quarterbacks coach there because he really deserves it.
“He knows the game. He understands the footwork, power, hip movement and torque needed to be a successful quarterback. He knows everything. When you put the right guy in that position, it’s great to see.”
Baylor and SMU have both hosted Henderson multiple times. He last visited the Bears in the spring and the Mustangs in February.
Houston feels like ‘home’ to Henderson as top programs continue to pursue him
More schools, including some of the top programs in college football, are still pursuing Henderson. They include Clemson, Duke, Florida State, Michigan, Ohio State, Oregon and Penn State.
These schools have spoken with Henderson about playing quarterback. Yet the No. 3 player in Texas believes that they are primarily recruiting him as an athlete, which is part of the reason why he remains locked in with Houston and is also considering Baylor and SMU.
“There are only certain schools who actually want me at the position that I want to play,” said Henderson, the No. 29 overall prospect and No. 3 athlete in the 2026 On3 Industry Ranking.
One of those programs is certainly the Cougars. If Houston is able to hold on to Henderson, he will be the Big 12 program’s highest-ranked signee since Five-Star Plus+ defensive lineman Ed Oliver – who became a first round pick of the Buffalo Bills – in the 2016 cycle.
The four-star has already visited the Cougars more than 10 times. Their campus is only 25-to-30 minutes away from where Henderson lives.
“It feels like home,” Henderson said. “Those are the words that I would use. It’s home.”
