Former Saint Peter’s point guard Jaylen Murray is currently in Oxford, Miss., on an official visit to Ole Miss. The All-MAAC Rookie selection confirmed the news on Saturday and will wrap up the trip Sunday afternoon.
Murray is the No. 20 point guard and 101st overall in the On3 transfer portal player rankings. He entered the portal on May 3 and has two years of eligibility remaining. Ole Miss is also reportedly hosting him for an official visit.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound Murray averaged 12.5 points, 2.9 rebounds and. 2.3 assists as a sophomore this past season, scoring 20 or more points in three of his last five games. He also earned MAAC All-Rookie Team honors in 2021-22.
Jaylen Murray was previously recruited by Chris Beard and Al Pinkins while they were at Texas Tech.
Seton Hall also recruited the guard but he opted to sign with the Peacocks. Originally from The Bronx, N.Y., he played his high school ball at Putnam Science Academy (Conn.) where he was committed to Bryant at one point before flipping to Saint Peter’s.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, he had several high major suitors. He played with the New York Lightning on the EYBL and at Cardinal Hayes High School. Murray was also a fixture on the summer circuit and drew big crowds due to his ability to create off the bounce.
Jaylen Murray is a career 35 percent shooter from three-point range.
Austin Nunez is a bucket getter who can also bring the ball up the court as the one. Murray’s ability to create with the ball in his hands would free up others in the backcourt like Matthew Murrell and TJ Caldwell to move freely and get to their spots and knockdown jumpers.

In three games in the 2021-2022 NCAA Tournament against Murray State, Kentucky and Purdue, Murray averaged 10 points, 2.3 rebounds, one assist and one steal. He was a part of the Peacocks team which made history, defeating No. 2 seed Kentucky to become only the tenth No. 15 seed to upset a No. 2 seed in the Tournament’s history. It defeated Murray State to advance to the Sweet Sixteen, becoming only the third No. 15 seed and first MAAC men’s team to make it to the second weekend. Then it defeated Purdue to advance to the Elite Eight, becoming the first No. 15 seed to do so.
