Ryan Jones, the nation’s No. 9 power-forward, likes family feel with Florida Gators

What stands out about the Florida Gators to Ryan Jones, the 4-star 2024 power-forward from The Rock School in Gainesville, Fla.?

“It’s just a family when you get there — a positive vibe,” Jones said. “They’re like a family. Close together. They have fun with each other.”

Jones, listed at 6-foot-8 and 215 pounds, is a high-level Florida target.

He’s the No. 9 power-forward and No. 69 overall recruit nationally according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.

Jones, a native of Indiana, unofficially visited Todd Golden’s Florida program earlier this month.

“It was good,” Jones said. “Every time I go, I feel more comfortable since the new coaching staff came there. It was just all around great. They treated me like I’m already on the team. Great coaches.”

According to Jones, he’s getting “pretty deep” into his recruitment. He plans to trim things down a bit “possibly in the beginning of the fall.”

“I’m trying to commit at least by the early signing period, which is in November.”

He has set four official visits and Florida will get one of them. That visit will take place Sept. 16.

Additional officials are scheduled for Xavier (Aug. 3), Virginia Tech (Sept. 2) and LSU (Sept. 22) .

“Anyone else can still get an official, these are just the ones I already have locked in” Jones told Gators Online.

Ryan Jones also is solid in the classroom

Jones, who carries a 3.9 GPA, hopes to study graphic design in college. When asked what his main factors will be when picking a school, this is how he replied:

“I have three,” Jones said. “The first one, a coaching staff or someone on the coaching staff who has a great relationship with God. So while I’m there my faith can continue to grow. Or a person who I can go to them with anything and they’ll be there. My second, there’s no conflict with the team. Nothing from the past that’s hurting them in the present. You get good vibes, positive vibes. Everybody is cool with each other. And the last one, education wise, if it meets my standards and what I want to accomplish outside of basketball.”

Jones said his primary Florida recruiter is Carlin Hartman.

“He’s a good dude,” Jones said. “His son plays on my high school team.”
