Rusty’s Ramblings: What’s on tap for Georgia during preseason camp

Georgia players will technically “report” for camp tomorrow, but they are in the building today. Meetings and last minute preparations for the start of practice on Thursday is on the agenda.

The players will stay at the hotel over at the Georgia Center for the next 2.5 weeks. I spoke with a parent of a player last night and they were going to get his car for some maintenance since no one will need one for a while. [Insert your own joke there]

It is go time in Athens, they will eat, sleep and breathe football during this time. They have daily meetings and basically every minute is accounted for during this time. Players do get a few free hours at the end of each day, but those will be spent with teammates back at the hotel. I would imagine that a ton of NCAA College Football 25 will be played.

This is also the time that guest speakers are usually brought in, usually a few each week. Kirby Smart has had motivational speakers like Inky Johnson, former military, and others in to speak. Georgia will waste no time getting to it. The walkthroughs at UGA move at a different speed. I remember talking to a coach that is no longer at UGA and he told me “no one practices like Georgia that I have seen. Our 4th string players got more reps than our 2’s at other places.”

I hear those kinds of things said often about UGA and it is something that other schools are starting to try and mimic a bit but in their own way. It takes a lot of people to be able to manage and organize that and Kirby Smart demands that daily with practice. NCAA can limit the amount of time, they can not limit the reps for each player.

Look for Georgia as well to start a national Heisman Trophy campaign for Carson Beck sooner rather than later. I am told that is something already in the works and it would not surprise me to have him up on some buildings and big signs around the country during the season.
