Rusty’s Ramblings: UGA staff at Westlake in full force on Thursday night
I was at Westlake on Thursday night and UGA staff was there in full force for the intra-squad spring game.
Mike Bobo, James Coley and Stacy Searels were all there and it was no secret who they were to see in 2025 targets Travis Smith and Juan Gaston.
Smith will be in Athens this weekend and Gaston will be in Athens at month’s end for his official. The UGA assistants spent a good bit of time with both sets of parents before and during the game.
I think Georgia is in a good spot with both but right now these visits are going to be really important to each of these players. I expect both of them to make a decision most likely before the football season begins in August. I think both take all of their scheduled visits in June from everything I heard last night.
Gaston had a very good game. He is much more athletic than I thought. I have been really high on him, as you know, since he was a freshman starting for a 7A team a few years ago. He was absolutely mauling people last night and he was getting out in space and pulling on counter plays. At one point, I looked over at Stacy Searels after we both watched him pulling at 360 pounds and Searels just shook his head and smiled. You don’t find guys like him very often. He is a Sunday player and I am even more convinced of it after last night.
