Rusty’s Ramblings: Quick hitters from Nashville, Georgia recruiting nuggets

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — SEC Media Days is drawing to a close but things are about to pick back up, at least for a quick spurt, on the recruiting trail. Before I leave the Music City, here are a few nuggets on what went down here and Georgia recruiting.

Starting with some quick thoughts on yesterday. I agree with Jake Rowe and how well things went for Georgia. I thought Kirby Smart looked comfortable talking about his team and he was able to communicate the team’s mindset and mantra really well.

Brock Bowers definitely looked a little nervous as the day began, but I watched him walk around radio row and he seemed to loosen up. These types of environments are important for him right now because he’s going to be in front of a lot of NFL Media this time next year.

The Jaylen Heyward news was something we we were watching with his visits over the last few months. Still, we were not quite sure how it would play out. First and foremost, Georgia would have kept him in this class. But they are also recruiting others at that position and it starts with KJ Bolden and Kam Mikell.

Bolden is set to decide in a couple of weeks, August 5, and I still don’t think a final decision has been made. I’ve said it many times and there may be twists and turns to come, but I would still pick UGA right now. Georgia and several other schools are trying to get him on campus next week.

I have gotten a lot of questions about Nate Frazier and where his recruitment is trending. A lot of programs are recruiting this guy really hard but I would pick Georgia right now. Based on conversations with people close to his recruitment, I tend to think he’ll have a decision at some point before September.

I’m currently working on a list of prospects who we expect to be in town next week. I am expecting a strong group of committed prospects in the 2024 class to be back in Athens.

When it comes to additions to the 2024 class, I don’t believe that Georgia is done in July…
