Rusty’s Ramblings: KJ Bolden buzz, notes from Buford High School

Teams across the country have started gearing up for the 2023 season. That includes high school programs and DawgsHQ was out at Buford High School on Tuesday to check out one of top programs in the state of Georgia. We share what we learned below.

This was the first time I’ve been able to watch practice this summer. Buford was going good on good and their defensive line is something to deal with, let me say that. They open the season vs St. Frances Academy, a national power, on August 18. It’s hard to believe that game is not on television.

Dylan Raiola had a good day and he looks to be fitting in well with his new team. They had some snap issues at practice as they break in a new center, but when those issues were fixed, Raiola had some great throws. He delivered one about 50 yards for a TD to KJ Bolden.

Bolden came over to me on the sideline after that throw and said, “man he is nice, he’s is real nice.”

I talked with Bolden some, but not a ton. He told me, as you can imagine, that this week has been crazy for him. In talking to people there yesterday, it is clear that he is pretty tight-lipped about this whole thing to those around him. They say he isn’t talking much and I believe that.

One person there told me, “this is Auburn or this is Georgia.” I personally think at least three teams may feel good going into the weekend and I do not think this is over as of Wednesday morning. I know he spoke with the UGA staff again on Tuesday. I get the impression that he’s continuing to communicate with multiple staffs, maybe all five staffs — Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia, and Ohio State. We will continue to let you know what we know but, right now, it seems to me like options are still open.

Jadon Perlotte had a good practice and is taller than I remember from last season. That defense at Buford with Eddrick Houston, Perlotte, Bolden etc. is something serious.
