Rusty VanWetzinga settles in at Iowa

There was a time not long ago when putting on a black and gold football uniform would have been impossible for Rusty VanWetzinga to do. At the high school level, those were the colors of the biggest rival for the Pleasant Valley Spartans, the Bettendorf Bulldogs.
Now that VanWetzinga has left Pleasant Valley, he’s happy to wear the black and gold after walking on at Iowa. The path for him to land at Iowa was an interesting one. It included a late flip to Southern Illinois and then another late flip to become a Hawkeye.
He’s happy with his decision and settling in at playing fullback for the Hawkeyes. Right now he’s been running with the second team and learning along with fellow fullback Hayden Large. Plus he talks about how excited he is to have his younger brother, Joey, committed to the Hawkeyes in the Class of 2025.
