Ross Chastain wins at Darlington, gives electric postrace interview featuring watermelon

Nick Sanchez worked his way up from dead last to the front, but Ross Chastain had too much speed to end the race. Chastain gets his first NASCAR Truck Series win since 2022, and you know he had a melon to smash after.

Ross Chastain is always hyped to win a race, even a truck race. This is a series that gave him new life in his career and it means a lot to him. Like any good racer, Chastain just loves to compete.

In overtime, Ross Chastain beat Ty Majeski to the lead while starting on the low side. Majeski fell back and that’s when Sanchez made a run. It was too late. Chastain had it won.

His post-race interview was epic.

A great win for Niece Motorsports, and a fun win for Ross Chastain. Another melon smashed, another win earned.

Corey Heim picks up where he left off

Thanks to an unapproved adjustment on Nick Sanchez’s car, Corey Heim started on the pole. He picked up right where he left off in Kansas and led a ton of laps to start this race. He even dueled with Kyle Busch, for a couple of laps at least.

Busch found himself in the inside wall at Darlington by Lap 2. While racing for the lead against his former Kyle Busch Motorsports driver, Busch got loose and the truck broke on him.

For whatever reason, Rowdy was sent back onto the track after extensive repairs. His truck just wasn’t race-worthy at that point. He hit the wall on Lap 12 and caused another caution flag. Heim was unbothered by any of this.

Corey Heim won the stage and he didn’t stop there. However, other challengers emerged as the race went on.

Heim Time in Stage 2

Despite an honest effort from Taylor Gray and Christian Eckes, Corey Heim was more or less unstoppable in the first two stages. A caution from Spencer Boyd allowed a handful of trucks to pick up fresh tires and take advantage of those tires for track position.

Taylor Gray got into a small incident with Tyler Akrum and damaged his truck. It was a shame as he was battling for the lead at one point. Rajah Caruth was one of the drivers who used his new tires to pick up a ton of positions on the track.

Caruth was about P15 before taking tires. He started the race near the rear after adjustments were made to his truck. The 71 truck picked up a Darlington stripe in qualifying. Caruth had a top-10 showing at Darlington a year ago and on fast tires, he showed why.

Corey Heim won the second stage, but Caruth made a strong showing to finish P2. Then all Hell broke loose to start the final stage.

Ross Chastain smashes the melon from family farm

On the restart to begin the final stage, things got shaky. The field almost stacked up. Then, Dean Thompson got loose out of Turn 2 and caused the big one. Corey Heim, Rajah Caruth, Matt Crafton, and others were involved in the Lap 98 incident.

This opened the door for Christian Eckes to take the lead. However, it would be Ty Majeski driving out front before too long. As the stage went into a long green flag run, Majeski and Ross Chastain moved to the front of the field.

Jack Wood wrecked with five laps to go in this race and gave us our final restart. Majeski beat Chastain out of pit road. Then, it was a dog fight to the finish. Truck Series drivers against Cup Series driver.

Ross Chastain won this race in overtime and loved every minute of it. He just loves to race and he really loves to win. Screaming, yelling, smashing a melon – it was like he had just won a Cup race! Chastain is someone who doesn’t take these moments for granted.
