Rory McIlroy files for divorce from wife Erica days before 2024 PGA Championship

Just days before teeing it up in the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla Golf Course in Louisville, Rory McIlroy has filed for divorce from his wife, Erica.

Per TMZ Sports, McIlroy submitted the documents in Florida on Monday. The two tied the knot in 2017 and have one child together — a daughter, born in 2020. Rory first met Erica in 2012 while she was working a Ryder Cup event. They began dating after he ended his engagement with tennis star Caroline Wozniacki in 2014. She had been present at various events over the years, notably caddying for him in the 2023 Masters Par 3 Contest.

McIlroy, 35, enters the PGA Championship as one of the favorites coming off back-to-back victories in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans and the Wells Fargo Championship this past weekend. The No. 2 player in the Official World Golf Ranking and four-time major champion, McIlroy hasn’t triumphed at a major event since the 2014 PGA Championship. That came at Valhalla, the same course which hosts this year’s PGA Championship.

“I really got some confidence,” McIlroy said after winning the Wells Fargo Championship. “My golf swing feels a lot more comfortable than it has. So going to a venue next week where I’ve won, it feels like the stars are a lining a little bit. But I’ve got a lot of golf to play and a lot of great players to try to beat next week. Going into the next major of the year feeling really good about myself.”
