Ronnie Royal III feels at home with NC State

Ronnie Royal III feels at home with NC State

One visit was enough for Ronnie Royal III to know NC State was the right program for him. The Wolfpack offered the three-star athlete earlier this year and made him a priority from there.

After spending a weekend in Raleigh, he left campus close to a decision. He spent a few days thinking it over and then informed the staff he was joining the Pack’s 2024 recruiting class. Royal is the highest-ranked commit of the cycle.

The trip to see the Wolfpack in person really resonated with the rising senior and helped give NC State the edge. Royal visited Boston College the week prior. The time he spent with the Wolfpack’s current class of 2024 commits made a difference.

“Me watching film with the players that were already committed, it just felt like home already,” Royal said.

Royal’s mother, father and nephew all accompanied him on the trip and left with a similar impression.

“They really enjoyed it,” Royal said. “They thought it was a nice place, and they thought it was home for me from the beginning.”

When Royal called the staff to inform the coaches of his decision, joy and excitement filled their conversation. He could tell his commitment meant a lot to the coaches, and that meant a lot.

“It means that they really want me, and they really appreciate me as a player,” Royal said.

A couple of the Wolfpack’s commits also reached out. He visited Raleigh while quarterback Cedrick Bailey Jr., running back Duke Scott, defensive back Asaad Brown II and safety Brody Barnhardt were all on campus as well.

“They told me congratulations, welcome to the team,” Royal said.

Royal is excited to join the rest of his class of 2024 peers in Raleigh.

“They’re really cool,” He said. “They were really kind and nice to me, and the utmost respect to them.”

When he arrives on campus, Royal said he could play all over the secondary, including reps at safety, nickel and even a little cornerback. The rising senior does not think he will enroll early.

Going into his senior season, he has the ultimate goal of winning an Alabama 5A state title with Alexandria (Ala.) Gulf Shores School. Royal racked up 39 tackles, 2 for loss, and picked off 2 passes as a junior. Offensively, he rushed for 1,147 yards and 24 touchdowns, adding 876 yards and 8 more touchdowns receiving as well.

He shared this message for the NC State fanbase.

“Watch out,” Royal said. “I’m coming, and I’m going to be coming fast and strong every time I touch the field.”
