Rodney Terry visits five-star A.J. Johnson

Texas head coach Rodney Terry is in the state of California today seeing a trio of prospects.

One of those is On3 Industry Ranking 5-star and signee A.J. Johnson.

The No. 16 ranked prospect in the 2023 cycle was in Austin March 4 for the Longhorns regular season ending 76-59 win over the Kansas Jayhawks.

Texas head coach Rodney Terry was the primary recruiter of Johnson for the Longhorns. Terry has a long standing relationship with the circle of Houston Rockets guard Jalen Green for many years dating back to when Terry was the head coach at Fresno State. Green, who grew up in Fresno, refers to Johnson as his “little brother”. Green and Johnson share the same very well respected trainer, Mike Hill. Johnson signed with Texas over LSU with a decision that was due in large part to being within driving distance of the Houston area.

The 6-foot-6 point guard will play in the Iverson Classic April 29 in Camden, N.J.

Johnson also his professional opportunities on the table.

Terry makes in-home with portal target

Terry and staff members are also making an in-home visit with USC transfer guard Reese Dixon-Waters today. The 6-foot-5 Pac-12 Sixth Man of the Year is seen as a big guard with position versatility defensively that the Longhorns need headed into next season. Setting up an official visit will be the next step for Terry and staff.

A third stop in Southern California today is to see On3 Industry Ranking 4-star power forward Sebastian Rancik. The nearing 6-foot-10 skilled power forward is seen as the type of forward that has a major impact in college basketball due to having the ability to stretch the floor to 22-23 feet, is an adept passer and can play with his back to the basket in the post.
