Rob Gronkowski funds the renovation of his high school alma mater’s weight room

Former NFL tight end Rob Gronkowski gave back to the high school where he started to make a name. The four-time Super Bowl champion returned to Woodland Hills High School for the inauguration of their renovated weight room.

Gronkowski isn’t just a special guest because he, with the help of U.S. Steel, donated over $400,000 to fund the project. As written by WTAE Action News 4’s Caitlyn Scott, Gronkowski remembered the rust on his hands whenever he worked out. While the equipment was still functioning, their condition made upgrades necessary.

In addition to opening the revamped weight room, the tight end who played in 11 NFL seasons also took pictures with Woodland Hills’ students. Meanwhile, current Wolverine athletes wasted no time in trying the new equipment, especially the bench press. Gronk Fitness, the company run by his father, Gordon Gronkowski, provided the new equipment.

Rob Gronkowski played only one year of high school football for Woodland Hills after spending the first three at New York’s Williamsville North High School. However, it was enough to make him a prospect that earned attention from prestigious programs like Ohio State, Clemson, and Louisville, among others.

While the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League initially declared him ineligible, he did enough to earn Class 4A All-State from the Associated Press and First-Team All-Conference from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. After high school football, Gronkowski chose the University of Arizona, where he played for three seasons.

The New York-born tight end declared for the 2010 NFL Draft, wherein the New England Patriots selected him in the second round. He won three Super Bowls and earned four First-Team All-Pro selections while with the Patriots. Likewise, it was also during his time in New England when he established the record for most receiving touchdowns by a tight end in a season with 17.

After retiring for one year, Rob Gronkowski reunited with Tom Brady to help deliver a Super Bowl victory for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After his playing career, he continues to be a popular product endorser and a part of Fox Sports’ NFL broadcast.
