Road notes: The latest intel on Illinois 2025 DL Joseph Reiff’s Notre Dame football recruitment

Joseph Reiff will be making his Midwestern rounds over the next three months. And Notre Dame is a definite stop for the 2025 defensive lineman from Elmhurst (Ill.) Community School.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Reiff has reeled in six Power Five scholarship offers since May 16. He’s visited each one of those schools — Iowa, Louisville, Northwestern, Notre Dame and Purdue — besides Cincinnati, who offered during the August recruiting dead period.
Fighting Irish defensive line coach Al Washington offered Reiff after his performance in Notre Dame’s Evaluation Camp II on June 20. Reiff returned to campus for the program’s “grill & chill” recruiting event on July 30. And now that college coaches can contact him – as of Aug. 1 — he’s heard plenty from Washington.
In fact, after Notre Dame’s Week 0 win over Navy last Saturday, Washington texted Reiff. The Irish will hope for the same outcome on Sept. 23 against Ohio State when Reiff returns to campus for a game-day visit.
Notre Dame is one of five schools he intends to visit this football season. Reiff will be at Purdue on Saturday for its home opener against Florida Atlantic. He’ll also head to Michigan in search of an offer during its Week 2 matchup with UNLV.
Reiff said he’ll also visit Wisconsin and Iowa but did not specify a date. The Badgers have yet to offer him. In June 2022, he camped at Michigan and Wisconsin. With his college recruitment taking an entirely new look more than a year later, those schools will certainly get an extra set of eyes on him.
While Reiff has experienced plenty of excitement since his recruitment began, he’s not in a hurry to shut it down in favor of a commitment. He’s eager to hear from more schools, which could give him new options. Nonetheless, he likes the ones he already has and could see himself having a favorite by the time football season ends.
Reiff’s father was a defensive lineman at Northwestern. Although the younger Reiff does not yet hold an On3 or On3 Industry Ranking, one primary recruiting service considers him a three-star recruit, the No. 40 defensive lineman and No. 10 prospect in Illinois in the 2025 recruiting cycle.
Notre Dame has offered four other D-linemen from Illinois in the 2025 class: Chicago Simeon EDGE Christopher Burgess, Elmhurst (Ill.) Immaculate Conception Prep EDGE Dominik Hulak, La Grange Park (Ill.) Nazareth Academy EDGE Gabe Kaminski and Oak Park (Ill.) Fenwick defensive lineman Nathaniel Marshall.
