Road notes: The latest intel on elite Notre Dame 2025 WR target Talyn Taylor’s recruitment

Road notes: The latest intel on elite Notre Dame 2025 WR target Talyn Taylor’s recruitment

2025 four-star wide receiver Talyn Taylor is among the nation’s best high school football prospects. And his offer sheet suggests just that. The 6-foot-1, 165-pounder reports 20 Power Five scholarship offers, including one from Notre Dame.

Blue & Gold visited with Taylor at Geneva (Ill.) Community School ahead of the third game of his high school football season on Friday. It’s evident that Taylor also has set a precedent in his class for professionalism. The On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 71 overall player and No. 12 wide receiver in 2025 has taken a similar approach to his recruitment.

Since  Aug. 1, the day college coaches could begin permissibly contacting 2025 football recruits, Georgia, Notre Dame, Illinois, UCLA and Southern California have been the schools in touch with him the most. Schools like Alabama, Kansas and Kansas State have also contacted him to a much lesser extent.

According to Taylor, Notre Dame has told him he is a top priority in the 2025 class. He feels they have treated him as such. Irish wide receivers coach Chansi Stuckey, offensive coordinator Gerad Parker and director of recruiting Chad Bowden are heavily involved in his recruitment.

With high school football season in full swing, Taylor, also the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 3 prospect in Illinois, has made that his primary focus. His mother, Venus Taylor, has helped him manage the attention on the recruiting trail from college coaches. They also worked together to nail down two game day visits.

Taylor will visit Georgia on Sept. 16 when they host South Carolina. He’ll head to Notre Dame for the Ohio State game on Sept. 23. He’s been to each school twice. Wisconsin (5), Iowa (3), Michigan State (3), Illinois (2) and Michigan have also hosted him on visits.

Besides Georgia, all his visits have been to schools in the Midwest. His mother is a softball coach and has primarily spent her career coaching in Illinois. However, she spent the 2019 and 2020 seasons coaching at Charleston Southern University in South Carolina.

As would be the case with most middle schoolers, Taylor had a tough time being in the South and away from his friends. He feels at home in the Midwest. Still, his recruitment will be a business decision focusing on choosing a program that best develops him into a professional football player.

Taylor’s recruitment is on the back burner, making the visits to Notre Dame and Georgia noteworthy. When it does pick back up, a top-five or -six schools list will likely become the next public step. He is uncertain about when a commitment could occur but expects to shut down his recruitment before his senior season.
