Rising 2027 QB Peyton Houston talks his recent Miami offer from OC Shannon Dawson
This past Monday morning, the Miami Hurricanes became the latest program to offer Cotton Valley (La.) Evangel Christian Academy quarterback Peyton Houston, who is becoming a name to know in the 2027 class after a strong freshman campaign.
“It was amazing to get that offer,” Houston told CaneSport. “I had my guys right there next to me, so as soon as they heard it, they all jumped on me.”
Offering the 6-foot, 185-pound gunslinger was Hurricanes offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson, who made his way back to his home state of Louisiana to see Houston, who holds more than 10 scholarship offers.
“It was pretty cool getting the offer from him,” Houston explained. “Our relationship is pretty good, and knowing he’s also from Louisiana just makes it that much better.”
Dawson and Houston are no strangers to each other, as last summer Houston and his family made their way down to Coral Gables for Miami’s Legends Camp. While at the camp, Houston showcased his talent in front of Dawson and a handful of Miami staff members, which led to his eventual offer months later.
“It was amazing seeing all the legends come back and be so invested in the younger kids,” Houston said. “It was just an amazing opportunity.”
Along with Miami, Houston holds offers from the likes of Arkansas, Colorado, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M.
“It’s been pretty good so far,” Houston said about his recruiting process. “I just know that I’ve got to keep working every day, give God all the glory, and keep my head down.”
This spring the rising freshman visited Texas A&M, Texas, LSU, USC and Oklahoma.
“When I look at a school, I really focus on the energy in practice and how the team carries itself,” Houston said. “Also how the quarterbacks are coached.”
In the coming months, Houston is hoping to make his way back down to Miami to reconnect with Dawson and watch a Hurricanes fall practice.
“I want to get down to a practice to see how the quarterbacks are coached and really see how coach Dawson teaches,” Houston explained.

Houston has been on Dawson’s radar since he was an eighth grader, so seeing Miami pull the trigger and offer him so early is no surprise. While it may still be extremely early, Houston is viewed as one of the top quarterback recruits in the 2027 cycle, and the Hurricanes are in the mix early.
