Rising 2025 Ohio DL target Brandon Caesar recaps spring return to Michigan
Three-star Cleveland Heights (Ohio) High defensive lineman Brandon Caesar returned to Michigan at the beginning of April to watch spring camp practice.
“It was my second time being there, so it was familiar,” Caesar told The Wolverine. “I’m not going to lie, there wasn’t too much I (needed) to see. I was only really trying to connect with the coach, trying to get a good relationship with him and see if that could be a room I could fit in.”
Caesar had first toured the facilities in Ann Arbor nearly two years earlier, so this was an opportunity for him to meet with the coaching staff, including new defensive line coach Lou Esposito. Michigan pulled the trigger on an offer this past May.
“I talked to Coach Espo, cool guy,” Caesar said. “I felt a good connection with him. It was smooth. I enjoyed (the visit). It was nice.
“As a person, he’s a cool guy. He cares about his players. Honestly, he does. From watching practice, I’m seeing him caring about his guys. Making sure they finish the reps, running all the way off the field.”
On the return, Caesar also met with new Michigan head coach Sherrone Moore.
“He’s just trying to start his legacy,” Caesar said. “Not just start, but continuing the best way he can. Being able to do it, it means something. It means a lot, honestly. I feel like everything moves so smoothly in Michigan. I think it’s (because of) the way they practice, which translates to the game.”
Sizing up the star pass rushers who make up Michigan’s defensive line unit helped Caesar churn out a quality visit.
“It’s some dogs,” Caesar said. “I saw them, and I’m like, ‘Alright, you all got something.’ I’m watching them rep in and rep out. Even the second and third (units), watching them go. They’re big tackles. Huge dudes. They’re humongous.”
Currently, Caesar has official visits planned to West Virginia (May 31-June 2) and Tennessee (June 21-23). He alluded to scheduling another offseason appearance in Ann Arbor being a possibility.
“I think it wouldn’t hurt to go back,” Caesar said. “I don’t quite know, though. I’m going to talk to Coach Espo about it, communicating, just see where we’re at.”
At 6-foot-3.5, 260 pounds, Caesar is listed as the No. 598 overall prospect and No. 53 defensive lineman in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four primary recruiting media services. He’s also the No. 21 recruit in Ohio.
