RFK Racing trolls Lamar Jackson, Dale Earnhardt Jr. over trademark dispute

This week, the NASCAR and NFL worlds collided with Lamar Jackson versus Dale Earnhardt Jr. RFK Racing now has jokes about it. Jackson and his legal team were prepared to do legal battle against Dale Jr. over a number eight (8) trademark.

Between Thursday and Friday, a lot happened. NFL and NASCAR media were covering this unusual situation that was starting to unfold. However, it ended almost as quickly.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is not going to fight the trademark dispute. Mainly because he has the old DEI No. 8 trademark that he raced when he was a driver. That font will be used from now on for JR Motorsports cars and merch and more.

While the situation has resolved itself, RFK Racing had to crack a joke today. With Brad Keselowski and Chris Buescher, the NASCAR team might have trouble with another pair of NFL QBs.

“Excited to have Baker Mayfield and Josh Allen numbers on the cars this weekend,” RFK Racing posted on X/Twitter. Of course, they are joking about the No. 6 and No. 17 cars.

No one is going to be taking RFK Racing to trademark court over these numbers. But those are two tough-looking cars. The liquid gold design for Brad Keselowski this weekend is very cool. It’s not a throwback, though, so points are deducted.

The Lamar Jackson vs. Dale Earnhardt Jr. saga was gone before it even started, really. NASCAR fans shouldn’t worry about further action against the DEI trademark font, mostly because the original trademark for that stylized font predates any “ERA 8” branding that Jackson has. The JRM No. 8 was introduced in 2019 with Jackson’s brand debuting in 2018.

RFK Racing has had an interesting season

So far this year, I think that RFK Racing is doing well. But there is still more that they could be getting. Brad Keselowski is floundering in the bottom of the points standings, while Chris Buescher and Ryan Preece are in position for playoff spots early in the year.

Only twice this season has Keselowski finished in the top-20. He only has two DNFs. So, that means there are three races this season he has finished P26 based on a pure lack of speed. That’s unacceptable for the 2012 Cup Champion.

Preece, on the other hand, is doing fantastic. Better than many expected. Everyone who has hyped him up and said he just needs the right situation appears to be right.
