Report: Witness claims Jacksonville Jaguars allowed alcohol on team flight, would violate NFL rules
Witnesses on the plane where Jacksonville Jaguars kicker Brandon McManus allegedly committed sexual assault say alcohol was “definitely” involved. This comes via a report from NBC Sports’ Pro Football Talk, which received the court documents with witness testimony.
The filing states that witnesses saw McManus passing out $100 bills and encouraging flight attendants to “drink and dance for him appropriately” on a flight to London last year. It also claims that three flight attendants working for Altas Air World Holdings no longer work with the company.
In addition to the already problematic nature of the situation, McManus could face further punishment because alcohol is prohibited on flights according to NFL policy.
McManus finished 30-of-37 (81.1%) on his field goal attempts with the Jaguars this past season. He spent the previous nine seasons of his career playing for the Denver Broncos, where he went 223-of-274 (81.4%) on his field goal attempts and 277-of-286 on his XPs (96.9%).
He was released from Jacksonville this offseason and later signed a contract with the Washington Commanders in March. Jaguars coach Doug Pederson addressed the kicker’s release from the team, stating that it was not at all related to the incident on the plane.
“I think there’s a couple of reasons, one (is) performance. That’s obviously in this business whether it’s a coach or a player it’s performance-driven,” Pederson said. “Then you start talking about contracts and the amount of contracts and the number of the dollars and cents go into it a little bit (and) the age of the player. There’s a lot of things that can factor into and the fact that it’s a key position, it’s critical, it’s valuable because it gives us as a team points on the board or not.
“If we have an opportunity to draft somebody looking forward, then we take advantage of that. I think there’s several factors and not just in Brandon’s case, I think that’s the same way with any position that we look at.”
