Report: Oklahoma adding former Bucks assistant Josh Oppenheimer to coaching staff
Porter Moser has reportedly added a coach from the pros to his coaching staff at Oklahoma.
Per ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Sooners have hired Josh Oppenheimer, who was most recently with the Milwaukee Bucks in the NBA, for their bench.
“ESPN Sources: Former Milwaukee Bucks assistant Josh Oppenheimer is joining Porter Moser’s staff at Oklahoma,” Wojnarowski tweeted. “Oppenheimer — who had a close working relationship with Giannis Antetokounmpo — will take on a significant role in player development and offensive strategy.”
Over the past decade, Oppenheimer has had a few different jobs in the association. He was most recently an assistant in Milwaukee while also holding the same position with the Bucks earlier in the 2010s. He was also an assistant for a season with the Houston Rockets. Then, in the G-League, he was an assistant for a year with the Long Island Nets.
Milwaukee retained Oppenheimer for this past season after firing Mike Budenholzer and hiring Adran Griffin. However, after a time following their in-season change from Griffin to Doc Rivers, they dismissed Oppenheimer along with a few other coaches in May to build the new staff.
In a decade’s worth of collegiate stops in the 2000s, Oppenheimer has spent time at Duquesne, Delaware, DePaul, Kent State, and James Madison.
As a player, Oppenheimer competed for Rhode Island as well as Northern Arizona. He then had his own professional career.
