Report: Miami Central fires head football coach Jube Joseph

One of the most notable high school football programs in Florida has reportedly fired its head coach.

Miami Central has parted ways with head coach Jube Joseph, according to a report from High School On SI. Joseph had been at the helm of the Rockets since the 2022 season, when he was promoted from defensive coordinator.

The Sunshine State program was at the center of controversy in 2024. The Florida High School Athletic Association found that Miami Central used an ineligible player all season, resulting in the Rockets having to forfeit all nine of their games, eight of which they were victorious.

Miami Central self-reported the violation to the FHSAA, according to High School on SI. In accordance with FHSAA’s bylaw 10.2.1, the Rockets’ record was changed to 0-9. Per the fact findings letter, the ineligible student-athlete entered the 9th grade in 2020-2021 and entered the 2024-2025 school year as a fifth-year student, yet was allowed to play in nine games, violating bylaw 9.5.1. In addition to the forfeits, the association also fined Miami Central $900.

The program was on pace to once again contend for a Florida state title, which it won four consecutive times from 2019-2022. Miami Central is a nine-time state champion.

Not long after the forfeits were announced, Joseph took to social media to comment on the “error” that led to the 0-9 season. “We have been silent long enough. It is unfortunate that our football season has ended; however, it is unfair for our students and staff to end without the record being set straight,” Joseph wrote. “The error that ended our season was not because of fault or intentional wrong doing of myself nor the football coaching staff.”
