Report: Jets could work out new two-year deal with QB Aaron Rodgers

Report: Jets could work out new two-year deal with QB Aaron Rodgers

The New York Jets and Aaron Rodgers could hammer out a new two-year contract, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

After doing what Fowler called “salary cap gymnastics,” the Jets owe Rodgers a lot of money next season. It doesn’t seem feasible actually.

So, revising the deal after making a longer commitment to each other, both sides could work out a newly structured contract over the next two seasons.

“Yeah, Hannah, the Jets and Aaron Rodgers have been discussing a revised contract because right now he’s due $107 million in cash in 2024, just around $1 million this year,” Fowler said to SportsCenter host Hannah Storm. “That’s sort of untenable and it was really done more for salary cap gymnastics, so both sides are expected to hammer out something different and the teams I’ve talked to believe that the Jets could try to set up a new two year contract.

“(And a) new structure that has strong guarantees and shows their commitment in him for multiple years. And also Rodgers’ commitment. He has suggested that he’s longer than a one-and-done in New York. This would be a chance to show that contractually.”

Aaron Rodgers could be with Jets longer than one year

The current state of the team is all good, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport. How could it not be with Aaron Rodgers?

A future Hall of Fame quarterback gives New York a chance at a Super Bowl title.

Rodgers was acquired by the Jets from the Green Bay Packers through a trade on April 24 leading up to the 2023 NFL Draft, sending the future Hall of Fame quarterback to a new team for the first time in his NFL career.

Since landing in New York, Rodgers has been seen courtside at New York Knicks playoff games and at New York Rangers hockey games with teammates. He has really embraced the culture that the city offers.

“It is all good. And I sort of thought that new team, new approach, the buy-in would be really strong and really quick. And it has been all of that,” Rapoport said on the Pat McAfee Show. “Like, not only was he there for some OTAs and showed his teammates like, ‘Hey, I’m around.’

“Like (Aaron Rodgers) was there for all of [the practices]. And I know some of that was related to the calf injury, but still, he was there for all of them. He doesn’t have to learn a new offense, but he can help teach everyone else the offense along with Nathaniel Hackett, I think that’s gonna really help.”
