Report: Derek Stingley new highest paid DB in NFL, signs new contract with Houston Texans

Houston Texans cornerback Derek Stingley signed a new contract, a record setter, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. Stingley is now the highest paid defensive back in the league.

“The top has been blown off the DB market. Sources say Texans CB Derek Stingley Jr. is the NFL’s new highest paid DB,” Rapoport wrote on Twitter. “Stingley has agreed to terms on a 3-year, $90M deal — $30M per year. The deal done by David Mulugheta of Athletes First includes a whopping $89M guaranteed.”

Stingley has been highly productive over the course of three NFL seasons, all with the Texans. Now, he’s considered one of the best defensive backs in fotoball.

Last season, he had career highs pretty much across the board. Stingley had 54 tackles, four tackles for loss, five interceptions, 18 pass deflections and was named First-Team All-Pro.

Stingley has 11 career interceptions in three seasons. That includes five in each of the last two seasons. He actually only played 20 games his first two seasons before playing a full season in 2024.
