Recruitments altered by June official visits

Visits are so important as recruits make their decisions. Especially official visits. The month of June has been full of official visits with a large group in the 2024 cycle working to make their decisions before their senior season.
Some blue-chippers entered the month of June with a favorite or top two and that has remained the same as we enter the dead period. Others have had their recruitments altered by official visits and Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons takes a look at some of those.
Five-Star Plus+ DL Williams Nwaneri
The change: Entering June, it was all about Oklahoma and Tennessee for Williams Nwaneri. Those were the schools battling at the top. Since Nwaneri took his official visit to Georgia the first weekend in June, it became a three-team race. Nwaneri was back in Athens over the weekend after his official visit to Missouri and Georgia is at least in his top two, maybe on top of his list. Oklahoma is not going away and Tennessee is still being considered.
Five-Star WR Bryant Wesco
The change: This race is over now, but how big one official visit made was for Bryant Wesco. Heading into summer visits, Clemson was considered a contender, but most would have put Oklahoma, and maybe both LSU and TCU over the Tigers. That visit changed everything.
Fout-Star TE Carter Nelson
The change: Earlier this month, the buzz was around Georgia for Carter Nelson. There was real talk about a commitment to the Bulldogs shortly after his trip to Athens ended. Things have changed. After visiting Nebraska this weekend, the Huskers have the momentum. A decision is coming Wednesday and Matt Rhule has a chance to land a commitment from one of the top prospects in his state and one of the top tight ends this cycle.
Four-Star TE Caleb Odom
The change: Ole Miss had momentum as May ended. As we rolled into June, Caleb Odom took official visits. He ended at Miami this past weekend. Auburn and Florida also had him on campus. But the school with the most buzz around it is Alabama. The Crimson Tide was not talked about too much before the official visit to Tuscaloosa. This is an ongoing battle, but Alabama is setting the pace as we wrap up the month of June.
Four-Star CB Dakoda Fields
The change: Coming out of the spring evaluation period, Oregon was trending for Dakoda Fields. USC was in the mix, but not considered the favorite for the local cornerback. Lincoln Riley and Donte Williams got Fields on campus the first weekend in June for an official visit, and right after he left, he committed to the Trojans.
Four-Star TE Walter Matthews
The change: Walter Matthews is committed to USC. The four-star tight end out of Hiram (Ga.) was considered a Florida-lean before his visit to Hollywood early in June. That visit shifted his recruitment. He returned home, took his official visit to Florida, then committed to the Trojans a few days later.
Four-Star ATH Koy Beasley
The change: This one has been pretty fluid. Pittsburgh grabbed the momentum for Koy Beasley after an official visit on the weekend of June 9. The Panthers were viewed as the frontrunner. Even coming into the summer, there was buzz around that program. But not days before Beasley makes his decision. Purdue received the final official visit and the Boilermakers look to be in the top spot heading into a June 28 decision.
Four-Star OT Michael Uini
The change: Michael Uini entered June with six schools on his list. Clemson, Florida and Texas are out. After the official visits, Uini is down to Alabama, Georgia and Michigan. After taking an official visit to Ann Arbor on the weekend of June 16, the Wolverines moved the top of his list. He took visits to Tuscaloosa and Athens this past week and it now looks to be a showdown between the Crimson Tide and the Bulldogs.
Four-Star TE Kylan Fox
The change: With Kylan Fox, the buzz has been strong around Florida State for months. He is from south Georgia, he has gotten close to the coaches in Tallahassee and he was almost considered a commitment by some. The noise around UCF started to pick up a couple of weeks ago after he left Orlando. Florida State received the last visit, but the buzz is around the Knights as Fox closes in on a July 4 decision.
Four-Star CB Ondre Evans
The change: The recruitment of Ondre Evans flipped completely upside down in June. NC State had been the steady leader all spring. The first week in June, Evans’ recruitment went to another level. He added offers from Georgia, Alabama and LSU, in that order. He committed to the Tigers on the first day of his official visit to Baton Rouge.
Four-Star WR Braylon Staley
The change: Entering June, the buzz was around Clemson. There was chatter that Braylon Staley could be ready to pull the trigger on his official visit on June 2. Now, after visits to Clemson, North Carolina and Tennessee, the buzz has shifted to Tennessee. After his official visit to Knoxville, my sources say the Vols are trending to land the playmaker out of South Carolina.
