Recruitment of Five-Star Plus+ EDGE Colin Simmons a battle until NSD: ‘Neither of these teams are going to give up’

Duncanville (Texas) Five-Star Plus+ EDGE Colin Simmons is the nation’s No. 1 EDGE and one of the most sought-after prospects in the class of 2024. According to Shea Dixon of The Bengal Tiger — programs around the country will not stop battling for his commitment until he signs with a school this winter.

Simmons will commit on the On3 YouTube Channel on August 10. Dixon spoke about Simmons’ recruitment on the On Texas Football show. According to Dixon, Simmons holds ‘all the cards’ and could be one of the rare prospects to set a commitment date without already having made up his mind.

Regardless of what decision he does make on the 10th, Simmons’ status as one of the elite prospects in the class means schools will not stop fighting to retain or flip his commitment until National Signing Day. Right now, Texas and LSU are in the lead.

“When you’re a five-star, No. 1 edge rusher and you’re that valuable of a position, teams are going to fight over you until the end,” Dixon said. “Which is why I’ve told LSU fans — the commitment date is what, August 10? We’re four days away. The signing date is in December. Neither of these teams are going to give up on Colin Simmons. Nor is everybody else.

“Whatever happens this week, even from talking to people around the LSU side, the sources — they know if this goes LSU’s way, that just means it’s four more months of having to hang on tight and recruit him.”

The 6-foot-2.5, 225-pound Simmons has taken more than a dozen combined trips between LSU and Texas, visiting each more than any other school. He took an official visit to Texas in June and has an OV scheduled to Baton Rouge for November.

According to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, it is a tight battle between LSU and in-state Texas. The Longhorns lead with a 47.7% chance to land his commitment compared to LSU’s 34.4%.

Simmons is the No. 5 overall prospect and No. 1 EDGE in the 2024 cycle according to the On3 Industry Ranking — a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He is also the No. 1 player in Texas.

Simmons currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $415K. The On3 NIL Valuation is the industry’s leading index that sets high school and college athletes’ projected annual value (PAV). The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
