— Statesboro (Ga.) four-star cornerback Kam Mikell took an official visit to South Carolina during the summer but things have seemed relatively quiet publicly between the Gamecocks and the versatile prospect since then.
Still, Mikell put out a Top 6 earlier this week that includes South Carolina, Colorado, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas A&M, and Kentucky. We hear that the communication is still there between the Gamecocks and Mikell and Carolina is going to continue to take a swing here.
Mikell took an official visit to Colorado a couple of weekends ago and then was in Gainesville on an unofficial this past weekend, though the Gators didn’t make his top group.
Mikell could be back in Columbia as soon as this weekend which could be a chance for Carolina to jump back into the top half of the group of contenders.
Mikell has identified Nov. 3 as a possible decision date.
— Hudson (Fla.) class of 2024 three-star EDGE/DL Elias Williams landed an offer from South Carolina a few weeks ago and then committed to Missouri a couple of days later, a commitment that was already in the works when the Gamecocks offered.
Williams is an emerging prospect who saw his recruitment really start to take off right before his commitment to the Tigers with Alabama also offering.
Williams, who is probably more of a defensive lineman now than an EDGE, is a prospect we’re continuing to track on this end despite his commitment.
— South Carolina football commit Josiah Thompson is officially a five-star in the On3 rankings as of earlier this week.
The Dillon (S.C.) class of 2024 offensive tackle standout is now ranked the No. 9 overall prospect and No. 2 offensive tackle in the class.
The 6-foot-6, 275-pounder was previously ranked by On3 as the No. 18 overall prospect in his class.
South Carolina now has two five-star commits in their 2024 class as five-star EDGE Dylan Stewart is ranked the No. 12 overall prospect in the class, according to On3.
— Alpharetta (Ga.) class of 2025 four-star tight end Ethan Barbour is set to announce his decision on Friday. Barbour has South Carolina among his top five — along with Alabama, Georgia, Auburn and Ohio State — but the Gamecocks are not expected to be the pick.
