PURSUIT OF KANSAS STATE TARGET KAEDIN MASSEY

Who is the top target left on the Kansas State board regardless of position?

It might be Junction City linebacker Michael Boganowski, who just visited Stanford. It might be offensive lineman Kaedin Massey, also from the state of Kansas. And the other contender is another offensive lineman in Grant Brix of Iowa.

All three recruitments are headed to the final stage.

In the case of Massey, his process has actually had a bit more twists and turns than the other two at this point. Although originally slated to visit Kansas, he has canceled his trip to Lawrence and replaced it with an official visit to Ole Miss.

Although Jake Schoonover and the Rebels worked very hard for that to happen, I still have doubts on how much of a factor Ole Miss can be, and still consider the three of K-State, Nebraska and Oklahoma to be ahead for him.

Most involved think the Wildcats are a step ahead, and that is probably true. After all, he grew up a fan of Collin Klein and Kansas State. Additionally, some in his inner circle also are supportive of K-State and hope the Wildcats are the winners for his services.

With that being said, Chris Klieman and company are kind of fighting against that urge to leave the state and try something new that kids from Kansas sometimes have when other opportunities are on their plate.

I know it’s not like Nebraska and Oklahoma are all that different, but that’s likely the culprit if they somehow fell short for him.

GOODBYE

While Massey bumped the Jayhawks out of his official visit lineup, defensive end Wyatt Gilmore of Minnesota has done the same to Kansas State. Initially slated to be in Manhattan from June 12-14, he will not longer make a second trip to the K-State campus.

Although Minnesota is involved with the Rogers High native, they are not expected to be all that competitive. Sources believe he is looking for a bit more glitz and glamour and is leaning towards Oregon, Miami and Oklahoma because of it.

K-STATE VS NEBRASKA?

A program that I expected Kansas State to collide with more often once Matt Rhule was hired was Nebraska. Although he will certainly prioritize Texas and some Big Ten states for the Huskers, K-State overlaps quite a bit in those regions and the new Nebraska head coach looks for a similar blue-collar attitude as Klieman.

That has yet to come to fruition on a large scale, but the two schools are in the progress of locking up in a fierce battle for St. Louis defensive end Joseph Anderson. An official visit to Lincoln has already occurred, and one to Manhattan should be on the docket very soon.
