Recruiting Notebook: Kansas State looking to win another national recruitment

KANSAS STATE QB COMMIT BLAKE BARNETT
A prospect that has seen his stock soar quite a bit over the course of the last month is current Kansas State quarterback commit Blake Barnett of Erie, Colorado. In fact, despite being labeled a three-star by just about every recruiting service, famed analyst Tom Lemming described him as a four-star that had a five-star ceiling.
On3 does rank Barnett as the top prospect in the state of Colorado, on the higher end of the three-star recruits in the Class of 2024 and the No. 31 quarterback in the entire country. Before committing to K-State, he was re-offered by Deion Sanders and Colorado for what it is worth.
KSO’s Drew Galloway has learned that not only has his status elevated in the eyes of the media but college programs as well. We’ll see if Kansas State is challenged by any schools to hang onto his services, but he has received increased attention from Nebraska, Utah and Oregon.
UPDATE ON BRIX
One target not yet committed that K-State would like to land is offensive lineman Grant Brix of Iowa. Like Barnett, he has exploded in terms of popularity and ranking in the last few months. Brix probably has risen even more than Barnett, to be honest.
Every service but ESPN has him listed as a four-star recruit.
Not just that, but since being offered first by Chris Klieman and the Wildcats, the others that have joined the party are Nebraska, Wisconsin, Kansas, Iowa, Iowa State, Minnesota, Illinois, Northwestern, Michigan State, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Oregon, Auburn, Ole Miss, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Missouri, Duke, Stanford, Oklahoma and Miami.
Though Kansas State had some exceptional recruiting wins in the Class of 2023, coming out on top for Brix would rival every single one of them and potentially surpass it. According to On3, he is the fourth best interior offensive line prospect in America.
Despite that uptick in attention and notoriety, he has kept K-State in the thick of his recruitment. He has visited Manhattan more than any other campus. His fifth Kansas State visit occurred just a little over a week ago.
And it’s clear that the tie between the two sides has become even more serious and far deeper.
“It was a great visit,” he told KSO. “It was a small group with a good amount of linemen. I got to see an apartment where some of the players live and talk to the nutritionist, strength coach and academic advisors. I also got a really good tour of the business school. Practice was really good and I got to talk to the coaches quite a bit. There were some great recruits there that I connected with.”
K-STATE HOOPS RECRUITING STATUS
Everyone is desperate for news on the basketball recruiting front. In fact, some are reporting as if there has been a lot of movement. According to well-placed sources, I do not believe that K-State has yet engaged in any serious discussions with a single transfer portal target.
I do believe they have had preliminary talks with a few of them and are learning more and more about a couple that have already entered that they might move forward with to the next stage. However, they have not zeroed in on any at the moment.
As expected, Kansas State will be patient and thorough and only move on someone until they are absolutely ready. What does that entail? They have to believe it is the right fit and the absolute best option on the table or will absolutely be the best option on the table.
Jerome Tang and K-State will not settle. Like other staffs, they are fully aware that the window will remain open until May 11 and are mindful that other alternative targets that they may love could become available before it closes.
Additionally, Kansas State only has three spots to play with, too. At the moment, the only additional departure has been Ish Massoud.
