Recruiting Notebook: Kansas State leading for top target?

KANSAS STATE LEADING?
A lot of visitors have walked through the walls of the Vanier Family Football Complex at Kansas State over the course of the last couple months. It has helped Kansas State make the push for many of their top targets, land a couple and position themselves for some long recruitments as well.
A player that K-State has pursued for an extended period of time is Junction City linebacker Michael Boganowski. Now, he is not originally from Kansas, as he’s part of a military family that has also spent time in places such as Nebraska and New Mexico.
They do consider the Midwest home, though, and that is why many believe that the top player in the Sunflower State won’t stray too far from where he is currently located for college. At one time, the Huskers were considered a major threat because of that. I’m off that bandwagon.
While Boganowski is devoting some energy to Michigan, Washington, Kansas and Florida State, the overriding consensus is that the favorites for his services are Kansas State and Oklahoma. In fact, sources have consistently shared that the Wildcats should be considered the leader and haven’t backed off of that.
SWITCH ON PRICE
At one point, we were uncertain about whether or not a marriage could be built between K-State and Blue Valley High running back John Price. Though he really blew away KSO when we watched him play this past season, and head coach Chris Klieman as well, he had some work left to do to earn spots at various programs.
That did not deter Kansas State from continuing to foster a strong foundation for a relationship and three others dipping their toes into the water. He was extended scholarships by Iowa, Kansas and Oklahoma State as well.
In fact, soon after visiting Manhattan last week, he quickly made the trip northeast to checkout Kirk Ferentz and the Hawkeyes. It is our impression that K-State and Iowa would both welcome him in with open arms.
LATEST ON K-STATE TIGHT END TARGET
With Nebraska native Carter Nelson blowing up and potentially headed for the SEC, Kansas State has zeroed in on Sioux City, Iowa resident Carson Bruhn as their lone target at the position. They have hosted him for several visits.
The other contenders for his commitment are Kansas and Minnesota. However, it does sound like the Gophers have tailed off and won’t be winning his recruitment. That makes it a Sunflower State battle between the Wildcats and Jayhawks.
We are leaning towards Lance Leipold and Kansas being the pick. If it does unfold in that manner, K-State may elect to not sign a tight end in the Class of 2024. After all, they have taken two in each of the last two cycles.
