Recruiting intel on the rest of the uncommitted On300 prospects

On3 updated its recruiting rankings — the 2024 On300 — on Monday, and some of the nation’s top recruits made big moves.
Among them were a handful of coveted prospect who are still uncommitted as we pass the midway point in September. With more than 90 percent of the country’s best players already committed, the number of available targets is getting smaller by the week.
On3 Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons and national recruiting analyst Sam Spiegelman break down where things stand with some of the nation’s best:
4-star IOL Grant Brix
The buzz: Grant Brix was planning to commit before his senior season, but he just wasn’t ready. If he had committed earlier this summer, Kansas State may have been in the best position. The Wildcats offered early, and while they continue to be a contender, Nebraska has grabbed the momentum in this race and the Huskers are trending. Oklahoma is another school to watch, but Matt Rhule’s program in Lincoln is viewed as the team to beat for the offensive lineman out of Logan (Iowa) Logan-Magnolia.
4-star CB Kamron Mikell
The buzz: Kam Mikell was at Florida over the weekend for an unofficial visit, but the Gators do not appear in his top group. After an official visit to Colorado earlier this month, the Buffaloes are a strong contender. Tennessee is where Mikell will be at the end of the month and the Vols have had consistent buzz around them. Texas A&M is another one to keep an eye on. Kentucky and Georgia are two more SEC schools still communicating with Mikell.
4-star EDGE Danny Okoye
The buzz: The decision date is Wednesday, Sept. 20, and the buzz has been around Oklahoma since his official visit earlier this month. The Sooners had Danny Okoye on campus in the spring, then again for an official visit and Brent Venables and company have the momentum late. You can’t count Tennessee out. The Vols were at one time considered the favorite to land Okoye, but that was leading into to recent visit to Norman. LSU and Texas are two more schools that have been connected to Okoye at different times.
4-star DL Aydin Breland
The buzz: Aydin Breland is down to Georgia, Miami and Oregon. This one could still go a couple of different ways, but Georgia is once again trending for the defensive lineman out of Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei. He was back in Athens over the weekend, and entering that weekend, Oregon was the school I was hearing most about. Coming out of it, things have shifted back towards Georgia. Miami can’t be ruled out either, but Georgia and Oregon are battling for that top spot with a decision likely coming this fall.
4-star CB Kobe Black
The buzz: One of the nation’s top uncommitted cornerbacks from Central Texas is set to officially visit LSU this upcoming weekend. Kobe Black has already been to Texas and Texas A&M for a string of visits, and since the summer the prevailing theme has been that Black won’t play his college football too far from the nest in Waco. Black sits on top of the Longhorns’ 2024 recruiting board and there’s plenty of reason to believe that the Longhorns have carved out a sizeable lead. However, the Tigers and especially the Aggies continue to chip away. Black maintains that he is going to hold this decision out until December, but it wouldn’t be the least bit surprising to see a mid-season decision.
4-star WR Ryan Wingo
The buzz: Ryan Wingo was back at Texas over the weekend and he plans to see Missouri play later this week. Those are the schools battling for the playmaker out of St. Louis (Mo.) University. The momentum is with the Longhorns heading into this weekend. Wingo still talks about committing in December, but there is still buzz behind the scenes that a decision could come sooner.
4-star CB Jamari Howard
The buzz: Florida State is the team to beat for Jamari Howard. He was in Orlando to see Florida State defeat LSU earlier this month and he is expected back in Tallahassee at least two times before the Early Signing Period. Howard was at one time committed to Michigan State and there have been different leaders over the last six months, so there could still be a couple of twists and turns. Florida is one to watch. The cornerback out of Miami Norland was at Miami for their win over Texas A&M as well. But the Seminoles have surged to the top of Howard’s list this fall.
4-star EDGE Brian Robinson
The buzz: Many thought Brian Robinson would be committed by now, but he remains quiet on his timeline. The school setting the pace is Kentucky. It has been considered the team to be for well over a month not. Michigan was at one time considered the favorite, and Maryland and Penn State have been schools mentioned with Robinson as a contender at times as well. The school with the most buzz around it for the EDGE out of Austintown (Ohio) Westerville North continues to be the SEC program in Lexington.
4-star EDGE Solomon Williams
The buzz: Solomon Williams was set to take an official visit to Texas this past weekend, but at the last minute, he had to cancel. That visit could potentially be rescheduled for the last weekend in September. A decision is expected by Williams sooner than later and Alabama and Texas have emerged as the frontrunners. Clemson, Oregon and Texas A&M are the other schools in his top five. A visit to Clemson has been discussed and it could come this weekend when the Tigers host the Seminoles.
4-star DL Jericho Johnson
The buzz: Jericho Johnson is down to Oregon, USC, Utah and Washington. He is planning to take official visits to Oregon, USC and Utah. Washington is the only school Johnson has visited officially so far. A decision does not look to be too imminent for the defensive lineman out of Fairfield (Calif.) Armijo. A school picking up steam is Utah, but all four schools remain squarely in this race.
4-star IOL Elyjah Thurmon
The buzz: Elyjah Thurmon is taking his time with the recruiting process. He is still talking with each school in his top eight, but Clemson, Georgia Tech, LSU and South Carolina are recruiting the four-star offensive lineman in Hinesville (Ga.) Bradwell Institute the hardest. He will be at Clemson this weekend and he is close to locking in an official visit with the Tigers. Coming out of the summer, LSU was viewed as a frontrunner and the SEC program in Baton Rouge remains a strong contender.
4-star RB Jason Brown
The buzz: This one was trending towards Michigan State, but with what is going on in East Lansing, this could give other schools more time to change his mind. Jason Brown took an official visit to Michigan State in June and the Spartans became the team to beat. Washington has always been right there for the Seattle O’Dea four-star running back, but do not sleep on Oregon. Brown was in Eugene late in July and he is expected back for the Colorado game this weekend. With the Mel Tucker situation at Michigan State, this race may be a little more open than expected.
4-star RB Daniel Hill
The buzz: Daniel Hill surprised many when he called off his commitment one day before he was set to commit on Aug. 23. If he had committed last month, South Carolina had the momentum. He has visited Alabama has Hill back on campus this month and he is expected back in Tuscaloosa this weekend. The Crimson Tide and the Gamecocks are still at the top of the list. He is a Mississippi State legacy and he continues to communicate with the Bulldogs and Tennessee has been mentioned again as well.
4-star EDGE Booker Pickett
The buzz: Booker Pickett is a Miami legacy and he was back in Coral Gables for the Hurricanes win over Texas A&M earlier this month. The buzz coming out of that visit has Miami as the frontrunner. Florida State is a strong contender as well and Pickett could end up taking official visits to both programs. No official visits are locked in, but it looks like the race for the Tampa Wharton EDGE could come down to two in-state programs. Right now, the program his father played at is viewed as the favorite.
4-star EDGE Amontrae Bradford
The buzz: Amontrae Bradford has been considered a Vanderbilt lean in the past, and the Commodores are still deep in this race, but his recruitment is a little more open now than some expected. He has an official visit lined up to Texas A&M in October and he is coming off an official visit to Colorado earlier this month. Georgia Tech is another school on Bradford’s list. Something to watch too is, that he is cousins with Kameron Mikell, so the two would love to go to the same school. Colorado and Texas A&M are two schools they have in common. Bradford wants to make a decision this fall.
