Recruiting Humidor: Latest from top 2024 targets after the Simmons pledge, 2025s on notice

Inside Texas takes a closer look at the recruiting momentum after the Colin Simmons commitment. The latest from top targets Kobe Black, Dominick McKinley, Danny Okoye, and more in the Humidor.
Brandon Baker, OT, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei
There continues to be a feeling that Texas is doing well with Baker, and very well with the family in this recruitment. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian and Kyle Flood both have the family feeling like Texas would be a be a good fit as a student-athlete, and from a developmental standpoint as a player. With that said, the Longhorns face real competition from Ohio State. Oregon still believes they have a legit shot.
Nebraska is scheduled to host Baker for an official visit September 16th. NIL will be a factor in this recruitment headed down the stretch.
Dominick McKinley, DL, Lafayette (La.) Acadiana
Currently the next scheduled recruiting announcement that invoices the Horns is the On3 Industry Ranking five-star McKinley.
He’ll decide on September 1st between a number of programs including Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, Ohio State and Texas A&M.
Texas and Oklahoma have the most confidence. Ohio State has an interesting level of confidence. Texas A&M is more wondering where they truly stand. LSU knows they have ground to make up.
Dominick remains consistent in returning communication. Getting the family together for phone calls with multiple members of a staff is tougher, of course. That goes for all schools involved. McKinley plans to major in engineering. The University of Texas is popular within the family due to that, in large part.
Danny Okoye, EDGE, Tulsa (Okla.) NOAH Homeschool
The On3 four-star has setup up an unofficial to Texas for the Wyoming game on September 16th.
Texas has strong interest in the 6-foot-4, 240-pounder. But so does Tennessee, LSU, Oklahoma, Alabama, and others.
He’ll make a trip to Rocky Top on September 30th to see Tennessee as well.
One game he’s already asked Texas about is the Red River Shootout. The Horns are the home team this year and can host recruits. Okoye is eager to see this game in person, he tells Inside Texas.
Kobe Black, CB, Waco (Texas) Connally
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound On3 Industry Ranking five-star made a pair of unofficial trips in late July to Austin and College Station. Texas and Texas A&M are looking strong at this stage, but Black has more places to visit.
He really wants to experience college football games at LSU, Alabama, and Oregon. While Texas remains in a good position, Black isn’t in a hurry to make a decision.
After watching Simmons pledge to Texas on Thursday, it’ll be interesting what these guys talk about today.
2025’s
Inside Texas spoke with a couple of key people at Duncanville High on Thursday that were in attendance for the Simmons announcement. The feeling IT received was that the Longhorns continue to be in a good spot for On3 five-star wide receiver Dakorien Moore.
LSU and USC continues to be considered the main competition. Moore has plenty of family ties to Austin, including his mother. Moore is not only close with Simmons and fellow 2025 Duncanville safety Javion Holiday, and also Texas commitment Jordon Johnson-Rubell. The two grew up playing youth sports together and the mothers of Moore and Johnson-Rubell are very good friends.
